How To Banish Bad Breath For Good!

''Men hardly help themselves when it comes to dog breath, mainly because of the stuff we put in our mouths in the first place, cigarettes, beer, spicy foods and junk food, we all love it and don't want to give up, but all these things contribute to bad breath or halitosis, so here is a guide to help beat bad breathe, making your mouth smell like the inside of a hookers handbag in no time!

What causes bad breath?

The most common cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene, bacteria builds up on the teeth, tongue and gums resulting in a build up of plaque which obviously makes your mouth smell like a used jock strap. Other main causes are strong foods such as garlic, onions, spicy food and junk food, also smoking is a big problem and drinking coffee and other strong drinks such as alcohol.

How Do I Cure Bad Breath?

It is actually a fairly easy thing to do as long as it's done right, follow these simple steps for a better, healthier and fresher mouth which will boost your confidence and self esteem.

Improve your brushing routine.

Many of us simply brush our teeth twice a day, maybe rinse with water or mouthwash and think that's enough, well it isn't, to really clean your mouth you will need to brush for at least 3 minutes, rinse well with a good mouthwash such as Listerine. It is also advisable to clean your tongue as this is where most of the bad breath causing bacteria is left, you can buy a tongue cleaner from most pharmaceutical stores now and they are relatively in expensive, use 3-4 times a week to shift the dirt build up, there really easy to use, just scrape downward from the back of your tongue to the front, rinse and start again until you can see the dirt come away. your tongue should be bright pink so if you have a fury, white or discoloured tongue then this will be the main cause of your bad breath.

Drink plenty of water

One of the biggest causes of bad breath is dehydration, which is why your breath smells most in the mornings, because your mouth has dried up in the night. Try to drink plenty of water in the day, steer away from the coffee if you can, and replace your cola or fizzy drinks with mineral water.

Watch what you eat

Food plays a major part in bad breath so start to think more about what your putting in your mouth, were not saying stop the curry all together, but a good rule of thumb is if it smells strong then that will make your breath smell. Try to eat plenty of fresh citrus fruit like apples and oranges, and try to keep away from dairy products like milk and cheese, and strong spicy foods.

Calm down

One cause of bad breath is stress, stress causes the enzymes in your gut stop working properly and breaking down food becomes more difficult, this causes bad breath. If you are stressed because of work or something at home, look at what is causing it and seek some advice, or if it's a mild stress problem like an up and coming test take some herbal medication such as Kalms to relieve the tension.

Visit your dentist

I am terrified of the dentist I'm not ashamed to admit, but it is a necessity, all the brushing and flossing in the world won't cure any underlying problems you might have such as gum disease and tooth decay. Visit your dentist once every 6 months to help keep your mouth in good shape.

Conclusion:

I hope you found this post useful, remember that brushing alone won't cure bad breath, neither will just popping a mint or chewing gum in your mouth, for long term oral health you need to get to the root of the problem, whether it's smoking, drinking or eating the wrong foods, because guys, one of the biggest turn offs for a girl is breath that smells like a dogs backside!

Take care fellas, if you have any other tips and suggestions please leave a comment.''

I did put about using a tongue cleaner, same as a tongue scraper, looking back i think i should have put as a point on its own instead I included it in the brushing routine part, I used a tongue cleaner for 4 weeks as a test, and it was amazing, got all the rubbish off, and I found that food tasted better too, well worth using one as Brett pinted out.

Great post, Adam. But you left out the very best bad breath fighting tool in a man's arsenal....the tongue scraper. Seriously, it will do more than anything else to make your breath and mouth fresh.
