''I expect you have heard the saying many times before 'chivalry is dead' normally by the woman you just let a door slam in her face, or when you sat down first for dinner and didn't offer her a seat. Chivalry was a medieval institution, a code of conduct that all knights must follow, such as virtues, honor and courtly love. Is there a place for chivalry in modern society? of course there is! and with valentines day coming up you definitely want to make an effort. Here are some handy tips that will swoon your woman into thinking your as slick as Terry Thomas and as smooth as Richard Gere!

The Basics

First I will go through some of the basic principles of chivalry and how to apply them in modern society. Chivalry is about being honourable, courteous and respectful, the obvious things to do here are opening doors for women and men alike, seating your lady for dinner before you sit, and offering her to dance. But here are some more things you can do to be chivalrous.
  • Your girlfriend sees a dress she really wants but can't afford it, treat her and get it for her.
  • Instead of going to the football with your mates, turn them down this time and take your girl out somewhere.
  • If your woman trips in her high heels, don't laugh help her up, she will be humiliated as it is.
  • Cold? then so is she, be a man and giver her your coat.
Those are just a few basics for you to be getting on with, now I want to go more in depth and hopefully give you some advice that will really impress, I have broken it down to make it more digestible.

Be Honourable

Start as you mean to go on, be honorable to your lady, do nothing to displease her. Make your intentions towards her meaningful and respectful, you will get a lot further if you don't shout things like 'hey sexy, want a good time?' if your taking a lady out for dinner, go along and enjoy her company but do not expect to get laid. If another man approaches your woman, politely ask him to leave, if he is still persistent then fend him off. Protect your woman with your life, put her safety and well being before yours.

Be Faithful

'Thou shalt not be a reveller of love affairs'

I have never cheated on a woman in my life and I don't intend on starting either, it is always nice to look at the opposite sex but nothing more than that, and if you respect and love your woman then there is no need to go elsewhere. Chivalry is not all give give give, there are rules that women must follow too, and if you are chivalrous towards her, it will be in her nature to respect and love you in return.

Keep Your Nose Out

'Thou shalt not knowingly strive to break up a correct love affair that someone else is engaged in'

Stay out of other peoples relationships. If you are single and fancy a girl you know is going out with someone you know, then do not go in and try to break them up, if she makes her intentions towards you clear that she wants you, tell her she needs to be sure and that she needs to break up with him first. But always make sure you have no part in the break up and it is of her own choosing.

Keep Your Sex Life Private

'In giving and receiving love's solaces let modesty be ever present'

It is very tempting to go into work the next day and boast about how good your new girlfriend is at giving head, and show them pictures of her tits you have on your mobile phone, and whilst this seems like a good idea at the time, trust me it isn't. Regardless of whether your dating someone new or have been going out a while, your sex life should be private. People will respect you a lot more if it stays that way.

Mind Your Manners

'Thou shalt be in all things polite and courteous'

In the company of women, be mindful of your language and how you conduct yourself. Judge the situation for what it is, if it's a nightclub then obviously everyone is going to be drunk, swearing and cavorting so this probably doesn't apply, but say it's a wedding, a dinner party, a ballroom dance even, look at the people in the room are they going to respond well to you 'shotgunning' 2 pints of beer in 30 seconds and shouting 'WAAAAYY!' no probably not, fit in with the crowd, mingle and talk, but don't neglect your lady, make time for her, and introduce her to people you just met.

Show Your Jealousy

'Real jealousy always increases the feeling of love'

Most men including myself have always hid there jealousy, seeing another man dance with your girl, watching men leer at her, and when she goes away on business with her boss that is paid 3 times more than you, you hate it right? it's natural, and if you didn't feel jealous then there is something wrong. Showing your jealousy affirms your love for her but you have to do it right, if you push it too far it will piss her off. Don't be possessive and grab her away from every man she comes across, but make her aware that you would rather be dancing with her instead by going up to her and taking over. Don't fight with other men unless he strikes first.

Conclusion:

I hope you found at least some of what I have said useful, Chivalry is dying art, mostly down to the fact that many believe it has no place in modern society, I believe it does. Below are some points to remember.
  1. Be honourable
  2. Be courteous and polite
  3. Show your jealousy and affirm your love
  4. Be gracious in accepting compliments
  5. Put your lover before yourself
  6. Be selfless in your acts
  7. Keep your sex life private
  8. Be mindful of your lovers needs and respect them
  9. Defend your woman with your life
  10. Do not interfere with other peoples relationships

Yay verily, it seems there are few standards upheld nowandays because of either laziness or lack of knowledge also most hardly recognize when these rare qualities are displayed but I believe a couple young, classy sophisticates could change that.
