A real man is a woman's best friend. He'll never stand her up and never let her down
He'll reassure her when she feels insecure and comfort her after a bad day
He'll inspire her to do things she never thought she could; to live without fear and forget regret.
He'll enable her to express her deepest emotions and give in to… Continue

Lately, I've noticed a trend starting on this site, especially amongst the older. . .achem. . . I meant more EXPERIENCED. . . gentlemen. It's nothing that doesn't go on in normal society, but it's relatively new here. I'm speaking of the tendency to dismiss, even deride, the opinions of us young bucks based purely upon our age.
Surely, there's a lot of younger men and boys on here who are what my granddad used to call "broadcasters without sponsors", but age is not the only… Continue

It's a new school year. Unfortunately, it's the same leadership and the same recession as last year. School is about to start and I am trying to get permission to go out and fund this activity. It boggles the mind that there is reluctance but there it is.
If you are a praying sort, please keep my and my kids in your prayers. This Gentleman's Society really can change some lives - if they let us give it a try.

If you aren't a Christian you probably can't understand why we would be Christians in the first place, and especially how I would feel lead to be involved in Christian motorsports as a driver...is the money justified when there are so many poor, hungry people ?
I don't have the money (not even in the ballpark for the cheapest form of racing), so if God doesn't provide the opportunity, it will not happen. it's that simple. If God is behind it, then nothing can stop it.
I was… Continue

At some point or another, unless you are extremely self-confident, handsome, wealthy and emotionally stable, you have asked yourself who am I, where am I going? What defines you? Have you thought about why you're here? Yes you have, i'm here because...wrong. We (you) we are all here because we're trying to define ourselves, as men, as role-models, as learners and teachers. Who are you, where are you going?
What does it mean to be a man? To be a man one must be...wrong.… Continue

I'm sitting here, at my desk, listening to a remastered (Mono) version of Old Brown Shoe. The Beatles, John, Paul, Ringo and George, had it right. In every way. What was Lennon's response to war? Lie in bed. What was McCartney's response to John's now famous bed-in? Write a song about peace, make more money and become a popular hero. The world loved, and still loves, The Beatles. They embodied everything good about artistry and song-writing, and humanity in general - for that… Continue

My wife seems to be stuck in a mind-set that she doesn't want to let go of.
I'm basically unemployed right now. I'm techincally self-employed right now, but I don't get enough work to cover our expenses. My dad's helping us out right now so we can get by until I find more work.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to get back to school soon, but I'll need to save some money even when I do find work so I can make that happen. Not to mention the fact that we have… Continue

Bear in mind this is entirely subjective and my opinion only, I love jazz and was exposed to it at an early age courtesy my dad who played Count Basie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk in the background on the family stereo.
My appreciation for the music developed in the later 1990s and over the years if friends asked what albums/artists to look into when exploring jazz, here is my my list in no order:
1) Take Five- Dave Brubeck
2) Kind of Blue-Miles Davis

Should introduce myself, my name is William and I have been hanging around here off and on for the past couple of months or so and I like what I see, a decent support network for men in dealing with different issues.
I'm in my early forties in PR, communications and marketing and I live in Greater Toronto. I have a lot of creative and athletic interests stemming from photography to literature, active in the local arts community, I ski, hike, occasional cyclist, sometimes runner and a… Continue

Hi guys, this is day 4 for me in this website which I love so far and I think I'll be a frequent visitor here. I've always been interested in how to become a better man but more importantly a better person. Actually as soon as I found this webpage I made the leap to shaving with a safety razor (learn how to shave like your grandpa) and it's been awesome, the first two shaves were not so great but today was the third one and man I can notice the change!!
Well, my name is Nicolas… Continue

I found out this week I lost a friend. He was an ecletic, ecentric fellow that lived life his way and to Hell with everyone else. Unfortunatly with people like that things don't happen normally. He died on May 27th and I found out this week. There was no funeral in fact he was creamated and his remains are at the funeral home cause his family does not want them.
He was a retired Chief Master Sargent in the Navy, "the old school kind" he truly gave everything and lost… Continue

Perhaps it's just me, but does it bother anyone else how much swearing there is on the internet? I feel it shows immaturity and lack of a point of view. My top three annoyances of swearing on the internet are as follows:
1. Corruption of innocence. There are children looking on some of these sites. I don't want to hear some 9 year old saying something that might get them in serious trouble. Specifically the N word.
2. Ignorance and prejudgement.… Continue

Yesterday I finished purging my closet and according to the missing pieces I made a priority list of clothes I have to get. First off all, summer is almost over which means I go to consider clothes for Fall/Winter in first place. It struck me by lightning that I don't own a pair of jeans that would fit me well, then came the recognition I'm out of long sleeve shirts and polo shirts, I don't have a trench coat or a harrington... and the list goes on.
Because all of the above mentioned… Continue

I have always had beard ever since I turned 17. I love to be bearded and many relatives/acquaintances of mine said they would not be able to imagine me with a full fresh shave, however once in a blue moon it has occurred. But let me tell you reaction was like people around me told how a round, ball-like head I had got. Although I had my ups with shaving when decided to go for a mustache with side burns… well it looked like this..…

While being aware of the AoM for some time, I have finally taken the plunge and am now delving into the depths and crevasses of this site in order to improve and better myself as a man. In the day of metrosexuality and male tanning salons, I find great solace in an online community in which myself and gentlemen friends can perfect the act of true manliness.
In the coming weeks and months, My "Manly Pursuits" blog will document the activities and adventures of myself and fellow men… Continue

I've lurked, I've even posted. I've read and dissected many of the posts and articles that are on on this site. I think its time to introduce myself.
I'm a man, and I try to be a better man every day. I'm a father, and I feel that I am a real father, one that tries, one that loves my kids and treats them better than I was ever treated. I'm also a father that gives up from time to time, but only for a moment, I love my kids and I will never be MY father or stepfather(s).… Continue
