I have found AoM

I have finally found AoM by cruising the internet for personal finance blogs. Recently it has come to my attention that I need to step-up and do what it takes for the sake of my family.

This means working harder, finishing projects, being available, loving my wife, and putting down the video games. Time to put aside the distractions and go after life. I want to create my own opportunities. I am tired of waiting for life to just happen.

Time to enrich myself through… Continue

Mylestones: "Turns in the Road"

Several years ago the Senior Pastor at our church announced that he had decided to retire after over 40 years of service. The months that followed involved a number of unexpected twists as the pulpit committee attempted to find his replacement.

Since the church is a large congregation in a small denomination, the number of candidates experienced enough to lead a church with over 2,000 members is somewhat limited. At long last they found their man. 28 months ago Pastor Dave Plaster was… Continue

What is AoM? And, Thanks Brett & Kate!

NOTE: This article was written as part of a project I'm involved in at my church. (More on that later.) Anyway, I thought it was a pretty good description of the AoM community. I thought I would post it here as well. So I edited a little, changed the pronouns and some of the terminology, and well, here it is! :-)

Why am I so active here in the AoM Community? I get asked this question frequently, especially by family members, and the new "community"… Continue

The Villainous...

[James Bond wakes up on the table in the middle of the room. A laser gun is aimed just above Bond's head. Beyond him, stairs lead up to a control room. Goldfinger walks down the stairs, wearing a gold dinner jacket, a shirt with gold buttons and a black bow-tie. He approaches the table.]

Goldfinger:
Oh, that interesting car of yours!

Goldfinger: I have a new toy, but considerably more practical.

[Bond… Continue

Life, In All It's Glory... (27)

A basic, ordinary, flavored cupcake; strawberry with faux cream cheese icing. Not gourmet or old fashioned, nor from anyone named Dean, Martha, Sally or even Otis. Just an old friend named Betty. Moist and tasty, the cupcake went well with a hot cup of tea, add a little molasses and cream. A nice pick-me-up for a blustery… Continue

Ladies...Is Your Man A Closet "Metro?"

Just

the other day I was sent a request from a reader who thought I should

write about Metrosexuals. Scientific or not… defining what is or is not

a Metrosexual…now that is a project I would like to take on….so let’s

begin…

There have been many a theory as to the origins of Metrosexuals. Some think that “Metros” are just stylish visitors from a far off planet while…

And So It Goes...

Rest in peace,Boner. Only forty-one, Andrew Koenig suffered from a severe case of depression. "Don't ignore it, don't rationalize it," said his father, Walter Koenig, after confirming his son's death. A man should not necessarily be remembered for a single role but rather, "...what a great guy he was and a good human being … He was obviously in a lot of pain."

Richard 'Boner' Stabone: Mike, a voice just came out of the… Continue

New Chapter

So as I introduced myself, I said I was just new to New England. This may not seem like a big deal to some, but for me there's no friends or family here. So its pretty much like starting over, and honestly in almost every way I am starting over. This whole thing honestly hit me in June of last year when I noticed I stopped resting well, I wasn't personally happy with my new weight loss, I hated my job, and it was starting to become rough to go to church.

I knew this wasn't…

Ever wonder about those that claim to be open minded?

I run into a lot of people who claim to be open minded, to be tolerant of others, and are usually the ones pushing the most for inclusion and respect. Yet, too often, these very same folks do a lot of projecting when they come across a point of view they disagree with. Suddenly, they don't seem to be so open minded, don't seem to be so concerned with diversity, do not seem to care much about the views of others and in fact engage in name calling and personal attacks. All because they can't…

Life, In All It's Glory... (26)

Serendipity usually means good fortune by accident. Today, the fortune was had by a chance encounter with a former student of some time ago. The good was his well being, a job promotion and recent marriage to his high school sweetheart - another former student. A happy coincidence brings good tidings, good cheer and good… Continue

On the path of redecovery

I have had an interesting experience lately, I am attempting to build my wife a proper laundry room, she has in the past voiced a want for one. I have little knowledge or experience with this kind of home improvement. But by knocking out some poorly built shelves I found that I enjoyed feeling, there is a shower stall in the room that she wants gone and as I can't just use a hammer like the shelves I now have to learn how to remove some copper pipes. Learning how to remove the pipes and remove… Continue

What You Should Do Before Signing a Contract

Throughout your life you’re going to have to sign contracts. They may be for a credit card, a car purchase, a rental agreement or any number of other things. But unless you plan on being 100% self sufficient you’re going to have to sign them.…

Audience of one

Ever stop and listen to a song and feel like it was written just for or about you?

Had this just happen while listening to one of my pandora stations. A live version of a song performed by Roger Creager came on and I had to stop everything. I was blown away, and by the end not only was I having those cold flashes up and down my spine, hair raising slighly on the back of the neck, but I was actually tearing up. Like in the song, I never knew my grandfather, I have sought for years to…

Does Your Relationship Have a Hidden Agenda?

Have you ever stopped to think about your marriage or relationship and the original motivations for becoming a pair? Have you ever stepped back and said, “…hmm what was I thinking or why was my spouse appealing to me back then?”

We would all like to think that our nuptials signify purity and above all else–honesty. I, though, want to talk about relationships in…

Life, In All It's Glory... (25)

If chicken soup is good for the soul, then the chicken noodle soup at the city restaurant certainly qualified as soul food. Hunks of white meat, lots of noodles and tasty broth; delicious on a gray day. But that was only the appetizer - the entree consisted of fellowship with men who were coming to believe in a new way of living; from substance to… Continue

A Story Worth Telling

Story.
That's what our life is. The Great Writer is each of us characters a role to play in His epic masterpiece. As characters, we're never really certain what the plot that He has planned is. At least not our part of the plot anyways.
What we can know, only because He revealed it to us is the metanarrative. That's the beautiful part. A story of redemption. We the characters have rebelled. We have spit in the face of the writer and told Him that we don't like His plot and decided…
