Can someone please put an end to the blog spam? It's really bringing the tone of the site down. Surely something can be done about/to these parasites?

Men in Short Trousers

Started this discussion. Last reply by Paul May 18, 2014. 136 Replies

I'd like some opinions on men in shorts. I basically hate 98% of all shorts. They're badly cut, badly worn and often in colours that no man in his right mind would consider in a longer version.…Continue

What People Do In Pubs; Or, The Berlin Kneipe

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 10:19am 0 Comments

Rejoice, all ye young choiring throats, round our table rings a roundelay, hey-dey-dey-hey-dey-dey, round our table rings a roundelay. Three times three is ni-i-ine, we swig our drinks like swi-i-ine, three times three and one is ten, let’s swig another one like men – two, three, four, six, seven.
Who is that standing at the milling-bar, the swilling-bar, the rilling-bar, who is that smiling into the smoky stink-hole? (Alfred Döblin, Berlin…

Sins of the Flesh

Not so long ago I introduced the first guest writer to Being Manly. It is now my pleasure to welcome my humble blog’s first guest artist, the venerable and manly Julian Peters, whose literary comic art is making a…

Now We Are One

It is a year since Being Manly got off the ground. I can scarcely credit the passage of time. In some ways that first blunt list of a post seems a distant historical, if not historic, event, but the subsequent discussion did lay a foundation for what was to come, and for what is still to come. I’m not much of a memorialist – Birthdays come and go without a lot of fanfare if I can help…

Man of the Year, 2010

Posted on December 10, 2010 at 7:11am 0 Comments

The calendar is close enough to its terminal date to make the announcement of the first annual Being ManlyMan of the Year. The decision process has been entirely personal and wholly undemocratic, but still it is more reliable than FIFA. The award, which conveys as much honour as its recipient would care to mention, comes with no formal prize. Nevertheless, the winner’s name will adorn this website for as long as it lasts, and I…

Hi there Vir. Welcome to AoM. Also, thought I'd give you a friendly invite to check out my group, The Great Debate. Just click on "Groups." It's the one with the colorful galaxy picture. It's also one of the most active groups on AoM. In any case, great to have you aboard.

Hunting: Questions, Concerns, and General Discussion!

It seems to me that not many men on the board are discussing the finer points of hunting, it's equipment or tactics. Why is this? There are so many facets of the sport that are considered quintessentially manly, yet I don't believe it is getting adequate coverage. So I propose this be a post dedicated to answering questions or concerns about hunting or gear that any of you might have. If I don't know the answer I will attempt to find it.

"One time my great grandfather got pulled over; the cop must have thought he was drunk. The cop then learns that he was reading his Bible. While driving. Got off with a warning. So maybe if you keep a Bible open you can BS your way out of a ticket."
