As a chef, this is patently absurd. Cooking is a progressive process, you can't simply salt at the end to taste. It requires layering flavors in a sequence. The result would be a culinary disaster. More importantly, it would backfire. People would…

Where does Chalemagne fit on the list? Conquered what is modern day France, Germany, most of Italy, and Constantinople, converted the continent to Christianity, brought education back to the masses and had the largest Empire since the Romans.

That is an interesting interpretation, and I believe that we will have some type of authorities given to us in the end times. What version of the Bible are you using for that reading?

The version in Luke is more telling that way: So the first one came before him and said, ‘Sir, your mina has made ten minas more.’ 17 And the king said to him, ‘Well done, good slave! Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, you will h…

Depending on the version you read, the one with more did get more reward - propotionately so.

Since I believe that the talents (as in a weight of measure) refers to faith which I support with Romans 12:6-8 I think that Christ would reward the servant for his faithfulness. Why else would the one with the 5 not get a greater reward if it was o…

It's a great meat, very lean and has a similar flavour to beef, but quite a bit stronger. If you're cooking kangaroo steaks though, you need to make it pretty rare as it turns to boot leather very quickly!

Suburban Commuter - City Life 2

Ever since the first time as a teenager I heard Sheena Easton sing My Baby Takes the Morning Train, I've known it would be my fate for at least part of my life. I wrote before about how much I love the rhythm of the city and working here. But my day starts and ends 20 miles East.

My suburban home city isn't tiny - it has a population of 40,000 residents and swells with a daytime population of over 100,000 - but it isn't a teaming city of mi

City Life

I was reflecting today about city life. I know a lot of the AoM guys have a more rural lifestyle. It breeds a level of self-sufficiency that you don't necessarily see in the city. Life happens at a different pace, I think; with different thoughts and experiences. I work in a downtown core of a major city, and I think it's fascinating. Take restaurants, for instance.

I got lamb curry today at a little place a block from my office. It's only open for lunch. You walk up, order, ge

What's wrong with a little idealism?

I've blogged before about what I think about where we are going as a society. Personally, by and large, all things considered, I'm a big fan. I like what we've achieved. I think the past is in the past for largely good reasons.

I'm also one to admit that maybe we've thrown a few babies out with the bathwater, and maybe we need to bring them back.

What I haven't been able to do is really understand where people who disagree are coming from. Seriously, I just don't get it. Most of the tim… Continue

Manliness in the Media

I’ve seen a number of posts in this forum making references to how men are portrayed in the media. Many of those statements I thought were overbroad characterizations, based on my both my own experience and an admitted media bias. (By way of full disclosure, I work in the media industry.) So, for some time now, I’ve been looking at media portrayals of Men and trying to do a more thorough and categorization of these items. I make no claim that this analysis is exhaustive or could make it’s way in… Continue

Hell in a Handbasket

I admit, I don't blog much. Mostly because the things I'm passionate about - the things I would want to write about- are the industry I work in and, frankly, my company has an issue with me blogging about stuff I have privlideged inshight into. So what do I write about?

Well, there's one thing that I've seen repeatedly on AoM that just sticks in my craw. And I'm going to blog about it (and then get subsequently flamed until I resemble that christmas turkey that Aunt Fredia left in the oven waaa… Continue

Kevin Phillips is the definition of intellectual. His groundbreaking book Wealth and Democracy totally illuminates our current society - and points the way to the future.

Can you briefly tell me his conclusions? Sounds interesting.

Topher, just wanted to say that you rock. Enjoyed chatting with you yesterday. Proud of you for opening your home and caring for others. The world would be a much better place if more people looked out for the needs of others. Inspiring.
