Aid Bags

Okay, this is a subject that everyone has an opinion on; What is your choice for an aid bag? I'm not talking about what you put in it (volumes could be written about that.) I'm just interested in your choice of thing to carry your aid stuff. I'm really leaning toward the Voodoo Tactical Field Medical Backpack. I've heard good things about it and the price is right.…See More

Starbucks Versimo...unscientific number crunching

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 1:57am 0 Comments

Yesterday I had a Starbucks latte made with the company’s Versimo pod system during a demo in a store. And I got to thinking about whether or not it was a better deal economically to use the pod system versus buying my drinks in the Starbucks store.

The prices for the machine and the pods are as follows:

(All product prices via Starbucks.com)

Verismo Machine - $199.00

Latte Pods (8 servings each espresso and milk) - $12.95

Milk Pods (12) - $12.95

Espresso and…

I have been around some Thanksgiving tables that adhere to the tradition of everyone saying what they are thankful for.  I have been deployed twice, so naturally, “I’m thankful I’m not deployed” is an easy beg-off.  It’s what folks expect to hear, and they get another chance to pull out their “Support the Troops” shtick before it disappears.

The reality of it is, at least for me, that the holidays were better when I was deployed.  It was just another day; if you were in the…

I have to say this before I start.  Any statements that I make with regard to a specific brand name of product are done solely to be of use to the AoM community.  I won’t talk about it if I haven’t used it.  Nobody pays me to use their stuff.  If something works for me, I’ll tell you.  Same goes for the negative.  This concludes the disclaimer.

In an earlier post, I talked about the ruck I was going to use…

The Ruck

I've previously posted about the fact that I'm planning on participating in the Bataan Memorial Death March in 2013; in a nutshell, I'll be walking a marathon with a thirty-five pound ruck on my back. Right now I'd like to cover the pack itself; I'll cover what I'm carrying and how I train in another post.

I have to say this before I start.  Any statements that I make with regard to…

Thanks. Herb, the photo is of W.H. Harris; I took it from a photo of the Dodge City Peace Commission. In that photo is also Wyatt Earp and Luke Short. Back in my misspent youth in the entertainment industry doing stunts at a wild west theme park in Scottsdale, AZ my friend found the photo on a postcard and brought it to my attention. The resemblance between Harris and me was remarkable, and a little creepy around the edges, so I kind of adopted Mr Harris' image. Sorry for the long story, but I like telling it.

Hi there Tom. Welcome to AoM. Love your pic. Also, thought I'd give you a friendly invite to check out my new group The Great Debate. It's the one with the colorful galaxy picture. It's also the most active group on AoM at the moment. In any case, great to have you aboard.

A Poem by some one that I knowTake nothing lightlyBy Bjorn FaknamTake nothing lightly. No vain promise give. Hold your honor tightly, In the one life we live.Do not throw trust away, Whether in you or from you. Live up to it today, In everything you do.Look with respect. Follow honor to the letter. Use the courtesy you expect. Nay, treat them better. No matter what gifts you were given, You are never above yourself.
