"It depends on what you call risk.   Can you grow and learn without risking it all, yes most people do.  In fact not risking it all, lets them grow deeper and faster, knowing when they fail they can start again or rest.  In projects…"

"I like your perspective that boldness involves thoughtful awareness of the risk, whereas foolishness is a knee-jerk emotional  response. Also that once the analysis is done action should be taken, "balls to the wall" as you put it. "

There are times to walk away.

A bunch of the guys and I went out for tacos last night. During our conversation, one of them mentioned that he had just quit his job. Considering the nature of the economy and that his wife just gave birth to their first child, I asked why. His boss had asked him to do something either illegal or unethical (I am still not quite sure which). When he clarified that he had heard the request correctly, he had walked back to his desk, wrote a letter of resignation, took his license off the wall…

Is this negligence?

I've been working in a department store (Belk) inside of a mall for almost three years now. I've never had any security problems and I've always felt safe up until last Friday. I departed from school around 2:20 and I arrived at work at 2:40pm for my 3 o'clock shift. Belk employees have to park on the third floor of the parking deck which I've been doing. On this particular day, the deck was a bit fuller than usual due to the Easter weekend so I parked in the very back of the deck against the…See More

Admiring aspects of times of oppression

I was having a conversation with a woman today and I made a positive comparison to the style and composition of women in the Antebellum South. An African-American lady overheard me speaking and became extremely angry that I made a positive reference to a time when her ancestors were enslaved. I asked her if she thought the bubonic plague was the only thing going on before the European Renaissance, then I asked her if taxes would be the only reason an American would have stayed loyal to Britain…See More
