My last post was quite awhile ago, but I wanted to give a quick update on that. My mom was indeed diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She's been fighting it for awhile and is kicking it's ass! All…Continue
I won't get into too much detail right now, as there are still unknowns and I don't want to speculate the outcomes, but there is a lot going on in life right now.I get it, life happens. These are…Continue
My wife and I are close to being out of debt. In less than a year, we will be debt free excluding my student loans, which will add another full year to pay off. We rent an apartment as of now, but…Continue
I have always had an interest for bucket lists--why we make them, why some do the things on their list, and why some don't.I just found this site a couple of months ago, while putting my "manly"…Continue
My last post was quite awhile ago, but I wanted to give a quick update on that. My mom was indeed diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She's been fighting it for awhile and is kicking it's ass! All signs are pointing towards her fully beating it so far. If you're one that prays, say a quick prayer and send positive vibes her way. My wife's cysts on her ovaries are non-cancerous and will not affect the baby! Great news. We over-worried because of the baby and the possible outcomes--I definitely…See More
"A thought, albeit cynical. When it comes to work relationships, unless you're socializing with your co-workers on the weekends and holidays, they're co-workers, not friends. And the only co-workers whose time, attention, and…"
"You probably don't want to hear this, but I am going to pull this out of...
Are you being that super friendly, Ned Flandersesque "Super Christian" coworker? That really nice guy that does really nice things, yet people never…"
"A simple thought, not from a Biblical or Ecclesiastic source. To paraphrase Miss Manners, "Those folks aren't your friends, they're your co-workers."
Too many people don't know or can't tell the difference."
"I cannot reply to your other comment, so I'll put both here.
I have been through much tougher times (individually), but it's never affected me the way this is (my assumption is because of the baby being involved). This all happened in a 48…"
"He wasn't being a dick. Just bluntly honest. You asked a question and he provided an answer. To which you reply by calling him a troll.
Seriously, you are coming off as a sheltered overly emotional girl. Grow a pair. If these are the toughest…"
"Men's groups are great for guys like me who don't have one good male friend to call in need.
A good group will support you. give you direction and check to see if you are taking steps to move ahead; a bad group will let you wallow in self…"
"I get your point Shane. I should just suck it up, but there's no need for you to be a dick.
Help me understand why you choose to flamboyantly show your disapproval. Is it not possible for you to read and move on? "
"Very good points. My grandparents get cancers lopped off their skin fairly often. Pretty mundane, actually. (As a matter of fact, my dad is getting an eye surgery done Thursday to correct a detached retina and vitreomacular traction. Prayers are…"
Great books I've read and recommend reading:
The Bible, The Dream Giver, The Resolution for Men, The Greatest Miracle in the World, How to Win Friends and Influence People, the list could continue...
Books I plan to read this year:
The Great Gatsby and Wild at Heart
I'd love more suggestions on books that are good for the manly soul.
Although I studied Media Arts and Science, shot home videos as a young boy, and recreationally shoot wedding videography, the list of great movies I've watched is very short (and almost embarrassing). Instead of listing that short list, here is what I WILL finally watch this year:
My music taste ranges very widely from Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Michael Bublé, to Christian Rap -- LeCrae and Andy Mineo.
I choose music to fit my day. If I'm going fishing with my son, I'll listen to country. If I'm relaxing and drinking a glass of wine with my wife, I'll put on something classical. If I'm about to work or workout, that's when I put on Christian Rap--the bass gets me motivated without listening to the garbage that's on the radio.
There are groups on this site for fatherhood, but this one is specific for that special relationship that exists between fathers and sons. Feel free to discuss matters relating to your relationship with your boy, your pop, or a guy who filled either role for you.Enjoy and God bless!See More
"I was commissioned in the "green to gold" program and gained a lot of insight from enlisting. I have known officers who did fine without enlisted experience and some that detached charlie foxtrots because of their complete ignorance…"
"Battle of White Mountain, in the thirty years war,
Battle of Kursk, World War 2,
and the Battle of the Falkands, Falkands war.
White mountain due to being a good mismash of Modern technology, new and old tactics, and being the battle that in essence…"
I knew a guy on the USS Nassau who had a bar of brass about 4" in diameter and a foot long he did the same thing. Whenever he was in berthing relaxing or in his shop on break he would work with the bar. Dude was…"
