Debate and Argumentation

If you ask me, a man should be able to know what he believes and why he believes it. Of course, we want to be open to new ideas. As well, there are simply going to be some areas in which we…Continue

New House. Thinking of gardening.

My wife and I just bought a new house, and the previous owners had a little garden, which I'm thinking of rehabbing and starting back up. It's in pretty bad shape currently. Here's my question(s): how easy is it to get started with gardening? My wife and I have three small children (aged three and under); would that prove too difficult? Would this be something I could involve my three-year-old son with? My goal would be two-fold: to enjoy a hobby doing something man has been doing since the…See More

How to follow Jesus, and why it's so hard

Commitment

I want to tell you about three remarkable people.

Johnny Fulton was run over by a car at age three. He suffered Crushed hips, broken ribs, a fractured skull, and compound fractures in his legs. Doctors doubted he would survive. But he would not give up. When he grew up, he ran the half-mile in less than two-minutes.

Lou Gehrig—you’ve heard of him—was such a…

"Am I a real Christian?"

"Have I actually been 'saved' from hell and sin?

"How can I know my status with God?"

If you have ever considered yourself a Christian, then you have probably asked these questions--or ones like it--at some point in your life. So, how do we know whether we are really following Jesus--if this Christian life were a class, how can we tell what sort of "grade" we would…

Should freedom of speech apply absolutely to the internet?

It goes without saying that freedom of speech as mentioned in the 1st Amendment was drafted long before anyone could have envisioned the internet.Interestingly many states do have their own local laws regulating speech (ex. obscenity) which seem bypassed by internet access. So should freedom of speech as a right be applied unequivocally to anything any everything accessible on the internet; the internet is the closest to anarchism that one can really get so there's no further-left one could go…See More

I could have died while hiking today, don't be stupid like me

I have a cautionary tale for my fellow outdoorsmen out there. I went hiking solo today through some less traveled canyons near where I live. I unknowingly ended up off trail and was aggressively bouldering to get up and around some obstacles, mainly a decent sized waterfall. I kept pushing because I thought this was my route, and the knowledge that I wouldn't need to go down because I was on a loop. Anyway, I finally got up the bulk of it and couldn't find anything that resembled a trail.…See More
