Philosopher King replied to Nate Thallas's discussion Good bourbon on a budget
""Angel's Envy." - If your local distributors provide it, it's the smoothest Kentucky straight bourbon I've had under 50 bucks ( I think its around 42.) Absolutely worth a try."

Philosopher King replied to Vince's discussion I am looking for books on pratical wisdom
"OK, back on topic... I highly recommend these, in this order, based on your request for books on "wisdom": 1) La Rochefoucauld - Maxims (Best "practical wisdom" book I've found) 2) Baltasar Gracian - Art of Worldly…"

Christopher F. replied to Philosopher King's discussion Unfaithful Women - What to do?
"I realize that I'm coming into this thread after the fact. I'm truly glad you are happy with the direction you chose.  For my part I would agree that you went the right way. As a side note it would have been the lying that was the…"

Dan Bonello replied to Philosopher King's discussion Unfaithful Women - What to do?
"Dump her. Just asking advice on what to do is disturbing. You'll get over it. If you marry her, you'll be divorced within three years anyway."

Philosopher King replied to Philosopher King's discussion Unfaithful Women - What to do?
"Just an update to anyone who may stumble across this post in the future: First of all, I want to thank everyone in the community who provided their perspectives. Having the support and general consensus of the group made it a little easier to face…"

Philosopher King replied to Ian's discussion Found that girlfriend's ex takes her out for dinner
"Hey Ian, I think I responded to your other post, basically telling you to play it cool and not make a big deal of it.  I also told you to tread lightly and keep your eyes open for her interest level. Well, this is a huge red flag.…"

Philosopher King replied to Neil's discussion Need advice.
"Hey Rebekah, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're talking about my comments. Just wanted to say sorry if you feel I implied that you fit my generalization. I agree that not all in their 20's have rocky relationships.…"

""There's nothing more to be accomplished by talking about that stuff" - sounds like you're getting it. Interestingly enough, I'm deliberately entering a relationship right now that's just like the movie. Don't ask…"

Philosopher King replied to Neil's discussion Need advice.
"PS. This is why you should stick with it, and why she won't if you're too forward with her: “In life, people tend to wait for good things to come to them. And by waiting, they miss out. Usually, what you wish for doesn't fall in…"

Philosopher King replied to Neil's discussion Need advice.
"PS Again... Even if it doesn't work this time, you may now see what you did wrong, and you can fix it for next time. Each relationship that doesn't work should only improve us to make the next one better. If you don't learn anything…"

Philosopher King replied to Neil's discussion Need advice.
"Ha, Yes, You should’ve read what I wrote first. BUT, now you get the picture, and you understand (by virtue of doing the wrong thing) what you need to do now. Here’s your recovery action plan:1) Just say NO to serious texts. No more…"

Philosopher King replied to Ian's discussion Girlfriend called me her 'friend'
"Tread, but tread lightly. Care about her actions more than her words. I once had a "non-girlfriend" for 9 months, but she came home with me everytime we went out, invited me to all her parties, was always available to me. We were…"

Philosopher King replied to Neil's discussion Need advice.
"Hey Neil, I've been through what you're going through so I'm going to weigh in with my advice. I like lists, so here we go: 1) Don't ask her about the reasons. Honestly, SHE probably hasn't identified her true feelings on…"

How To Act

- Never under compulsion, out of selfishness, without forethought, with misgivings
- Don't gussy up your thoughts
- No surplus words or unnecessary actions
- Let the spirit in you represent a man, an adult, a citizen, a Roman, a ruler. Taking up his post like a soldier and patiently awaiting his recall from life. Needing no oath or witness.
- Cheerfulness. Without requiring other people's help. Or serenity supplied by others.
- To stand up straight, not straightened.
