Ratchit replied to Regular Joe's discussion Night At The Pub / Bar: Button- Down Shirts VS Rugby Shirts
"There's an unproportional amount of venom in this rant here. Yes, the popped collar, gelled hair and shell necklace is clearly overdoing it, but I can't imagine a rugby jersey with some good pants to be a horrible outfit for a…"

Ratchit replied to Augustin's discussion 'No more Mr Nice Guy'
"I found the book incredibly useful. Especially the part about "silent contracts" - the basic, often subconscious, assumptions we have about people and how we feel that the world "should" work - hit home for me. I had always been…"

Native Son replied to Ratchit's discussion My coffee is weak sauce
"Point accepted.  If you don't like somebody's product, you don't like it.  I'm totally cool with that. And there's a little coffee spot near my work that has better coffee, and usually better pastries than…"

Louis House replied to Ratchit's discussion My coffee is weak sauce
"I think it's important to note that coffee shouldn't be boiled at 100 degrees celsius/212 degrees fahrenheit. I think in fahrenheit something like 190-200 degrees is preferred.  If you're willing to switch methods, try this…"

"My guess is that you are pouring in the water and pressing it down immediately.  Steep your coffee. Hotter Water, stir it in give it longer steeping time before pressing down. "

"I don't like their regular coffee - it actually gives me a headache.  But their espresso is pretty good.  My only complaint is that, when you drink it straight, it's often not hot enough.  I've used their espresso beans…"

Native Son replied to Ratchit's discussion My coffee is weak sauce
"Well, hopefully we have the corporate bashing out of the way. In a small defense of "the S company", in my neighborhood, at least, you only get a coffee at Mickey D's if everything else is closed.  Starbucks coffee tastes…"

Dino Silone replied to Ratchit's discussion My coffee is weak sauce
"i disagree about mixing in Robusta beans - they're a lower grade of coffee bean, less complex tasting, coarser - they're cheaper, and higher caffeine.  But if you need more caffeine, just drink more good coffee - you don't need…"

Ratchit replied to Mike D's discussion wanting to lose weight
"You don't want to go outside? Why? Hay fever? I can't think of any better way to save time and get execise than to get a used bike for $20-30 and ride it everywhere you need to go. But okay, indoor exercises. You could get a jump rope for…"

Carl Monster replied to Ratchit's discussion Keeping up to date in your profession
"I think it's critical to keep up with one's profession. I feel if you really enjoy what you are doing, you'll integrate continuing education into your lifestyle even without having the burden of "keeping up the credits". I…"

Michael B. replied to Ratchit's discussion Keeping up to date in your profession

"A total +1 to Will and Jack on this. What are you reading (in your field, now)in the way of professional journals?  Keep that up. Professional associations always seem to have seminars, often only 1 or 2 days, to keep you up to date, and meet…"

Family

Since losing the faith I find I have a difficult time maintaining close relationships with my parents and siblings who are strong believers. We don't fight, we all love each other, but there is a barrier that prevents anything too deep from happening. They are still faithfully waiting and expecting a prodigal son to return, so things seem to be a state of arrested development.I'd love to read about anybody's experience/success with bridging this divide in a healthy way, or of what potential…See More
