Michael Morris replied to Daniel's discussion Fixed wing to helicopter in the group Pilots
"Helo pilots in the AF start out in the T-6A. Pretty interesting choice, but very few people go on to fly helicopters. I'm not picky and will be very happy with whatever I get. The Texan is a hot rod, but quite a bit different than my little…"

Michael Morris replied to Daniel's discussion Fixed wing to helicopter in the group Pilots
"All good stuff. IRC the personality stuff doesn't count. At least not on the AF side. LASIK and PRK are disqualifying but are easily waiverable. I have LASIK. I'm currently going through pilot training at Vance AFB. Having a helicopter…"

Michael Morris replied to Daniel's discussion Fixed wing to helicopter in the group Pilots
"You could try a corrective eye surgery. I have 20/15 as a result of LASIK. It would definitely require a waiver, those are pretty easy to get most of the time."

Michael Morris replied to Daniel's discussion Fixed wing to helicopter in the group Pilots

Michael Morris replied to Daniel's discussion Fixed wing to helicopter in the group Pilots
"If your goal is to fly solely helicopters then I would recommend starting there. It's an expensive route no matter what. You won't pick up bad habits in an airplane, but some of the ingrained reactions you will develop will be adverse in a…"

Michael Morris replied to Stuart Charles's discussion Work, work...
"I would say one of the biggest things that can take a good job (or a bad job) and make it terrible are the people you work for and with. You really need to find a culture that you can fit in with as much as you need to find that job that fits with…"

"I'd agree with not getting off base housing. As far as training, it's concievable that he'd spend"

Michael Morris replied to Hank Rutherford Hill's discussion Joining the military?
"You will be glad to know you *should* get on base married housing. So you'll be able to go home at night. Just expect to put in a minimum of 10 hours a day in the building. If your grades are low expect to put in more up to 13-15 hours."

Michael Morris replied to Hank Rutherford Hill's discussion Joining the military?
"It was difficult when I went through, but most people who make the entrance requirements can pass if they put in the effort. You spend about 8 hours in a classroom environment and then you will typically spend a minimum 2 hours extra in the…"

Michael Morris replied to Hank Rutherford Hill's discussion Joining the military?
"Unless they changed it your payed E-1 in boot camp, then after boot you are given E-3. Only have to complete A school (6 months long) and sign more paperwork to be granted E-4. OCS/STA-21 is hit or miss, but definitely worth trying if you're…"

Michael Morris replied to Hank Rutherford Hill's discussion Joining the military?
"Depending on where you go afterwards you could get a ton of credit or none. I managed to get 30 credits towards my degree while I know other guys who got nothing."

Michael Morris replied to Hank Rutherford Hill's discussion Joining the military?
"That's a good question. There are several ways to look at it. First if he wants to be in a leadership position, then yes by all means complete it, in fact join the ROTC detachment. However, I get the feeling he doesn't know what degree he…"

Joshua Wolf replied to Joshua Wolf's discussion Fraternal orders for young men?

Will replied to Joshua Wolf's discussion Fraternal orders for young men?
"AFAIK, every fraternal order accepts young men.  Knights of Columbus accepts starting at age 18.  Freemasons, it's 18 or 21.  Elks and Moose, 21.  Oddfellows, 16.  Rotary, 18.  You have plenty of options."

"What other organization\fraternal orders? I agree fraternal orders exist and serve some of the purposes I describe, but not for young men.  "
