"http://www.amazon.com/Bouncer%C3%A2%C2%80%C2%99s-Guide-Barroom-Brawling-Streetfighter/dp/0873645863 It is $15 on Amazon. Giving you an electronic version for free would be piracy and is not something Brett needs to deal with on his site."

"I know tons of people who started later than 23 and a handful that started young, stopped, and restarted in their 30s and 40s. Never too late to enjoy yourself and learn something ;)"

"My first instructor was 61 when she started. I feel like calling 23 "late" is a bit funny :P. Karate is definitely a life long thing and since you are old enough to appreciate what you are being taught (compared to someone who started when…"

Civic Service Academy

Posted on January 27, 2010 at 12:43pm 2 Comments

As a transition from conscripts I would like to offer up the next of my proposals on ways to change society for the better. There are currently five federal service academies (West Point, Annapolis, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine), I believe that the federal government could benefit from building a sixth, the United States Civic Service Academy. This four year college would be run similar to the current service academies… Continue

Women in Combat

Posted on January 26, 2010 at 9:09am 12 Comments

After a large debate over whether or not conscripts would be a viable option in the United States, it has become apparent that while many members on here would be in favor of mandatory civic service, no one wants anyone in the military who doesn't want to be.

The next topic in this area I want to cover is people who want to be in combat and aren't allowed - specifically - women. Being manly men, we are taught to protect our women. It is there for relevant that we consider to what… Continue

Military Service

Posted on January 19, 2010 at 12:44pm 26 Comments

Honesty being the best virtue, I am just trying to kill five minutes before my next class. That being said:

I would like to promote the idea of conscripts in the United States. I believe that military service for 2 years is something that would benefit our society and those that live in it. Whereas, the level of respect the average young person has for the rules and those his/her senior has depleted over the last twenty years and noticing that numerous men and women have been cited… Continue

It's always difficult having a debate over the intarwebs. Seems like something that would last 5 min. in the "real world" takes hours or days in the virtual one. Plus, it's way to easy to misunderstand or misread someone's intent, whereas in a normal conversation their tone of voice or inflection would give you those non-verbal cues.

I appreciate you're willingness to ask the question and debate the issue. If you really want to get people riled up, propose something like allowing women in combat and watch the fur fly!! :)

"Short answer is yes, Catholics are Christians.  Anyone who attempts to say "Well, the Bible doesn't say..." or "I believe that the Scripture is the final authority" is being intellectually incongruent.  That is not…"
