"Can you be more specific? Levels of technology don't seem to repeat themselves.  Wars and recessions do.  These aren't very interesting answers, so I wonder if you're going for more."

Portnoy replied to John Roosevelt's discussion Do you truly believe history repeats itself? in the group The Great Debate
"History repeats itself like we can predict the actions of others. There are certain patterns we act in as individuals and as a society. Things look similar because we are going through the same general patterns. "

Do you truly believe history repeats itself?

I've long heard from my elders that "history repeats itself!" As I get older and more mature, I do a lot more thinking, and seems history does repeat itself in some way. Whether recent or ancient, to me it seems history does in fact repeat itself. Opinions?See More

"I've always believed there's a God, just not that the Bible is his word necessarily. In my opinion, there is a God, just not one we can comprehend. My grandfather, who has been a devout christian all his life has all of a sudden started…"

"I believe you should be allowed to do to your own body whatever you want so long as it doesn't affect others. In other words, if you want to do weed, or cocaine, or LSD, have at it - just don't get me involved."

"I think marijuana is degenerate, more than alcohol imo, but I like what I've heard about how the laws in Colorado are set up. The government isn't your mama; you should be allowed to smoke weed."

"D more research, it does not damage the brain, that study was an animal cruelty case, where they forced monkeys to inhale smoke for 24 hours everyday, no stopping. When you do that, of course you're going to have death and brain cells dying."
