"Yes you can, the gas will stay in tank, there may be a fuel line that you need to clamp off but you will be fine. I take mine off everytime I change the spark plugs."

"For most bikes, the gas flow from the tank is controlled by a petcock located on the underside of the gas tank. Just turn it to the "OFF" position and you should be able to remove it without spilling anyt gas. Always, check your manual…"
