"I have just styled my first beard and that was pretty patchy to begin with. Leave it for a bit longer yet and then maybe post up a pic. You can only work with what you've got and while you may not have enough for a full beard there will likely…"

"Wait a few years. :) Hormones, maybe. When I was 17 I grown a goatee, five years later a Lincoln-style beard, and another five years later (nowadays) I'm trying to complete my "10 years old project" with a mustache."

"A photograph would be helpful...patchiness can happen for many different reasons.   But my guess without more information would be that you're young.  You're 17, and many beards don't become presentable until closer to age…"

"Actually, I never could grow a beard.  I just leave it alone and it grows itself!  Rim shot."

"It can take awhile for the thickness to grow in, all your hairs don't grow at the same rate. So keeping it at say 2 on an electric hair trimmer and then waiting to see if it will thicken is typically a good way to go. Also, if its patchy, as…"

"Only way to fix patchy is shave and try again.  Repeat until it works."

"There is no way to "make" it do anything. Despite the popular old wives' tale, shaving does not make it grow faster or thicker. Only time and age. I could grow a full beard around 16 or 17."
