Raising my daughter with manly values

Posted on January 9, 2010 at 2:58pm 2 Comments

One of the biggest things I've been struggling with lately is strategy in raising my daughter. I have a son who is six and a daughter who is nine. As a father I hold the same values in raising a son as most men, but in this day and age why do not these values apply to my daughter. Both of my kids can start a fire with a flint, they know the importance of providing for their future family, the importance of keeping their word. My wife and I play very traditional roles, I work and she is a stay… Continue

Thanks for the add, Jeff. Glad you like them. My favorite is "The Conqueror Worm." "For Annie" is just so-so -- not fantastic, but not bad either. My favorite part though is at the very end when he is done reading and he makes a whooo! sound. I'm glad they didn't edit it out.

I have audio readings of "Ligeia" and "Morella" posted in my group, ALL THINGS CHTHONIC, if you are interested.

The problem is that there are just too many good tobaccos. How does a guy choose from such a wide variety of possibilities?

Taking credit for community projects?

Brethren,Please give me your thoughts on this issue.I'm the outside events coordinator for my lodge. Yearly I chair charity fundraisers for local nonprofits.I'm also swimming in student loan debt and have recently learned of opportunities through Americorps that, if I were to claim and get signed time sheets for my hours on projects, would qualify me for student loan repayment (approximately $2400.00 for 700 service hours). We advertise our events on the news, radio and online, do mailings and…See More

Tamar Gendler: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Politics and Economics

Tamar Gendler, Department of Philosophy Chair at Yale University, Cognitive ScientistWho gets what and who says so? These two questions underlie and inform every social arrangement from the resolution of schoolyard squabbles to the meta-structure of human societies. They are also the basis of political philosophy. Professor Tamar Gendler uses the work of three titans of the discipline, Thomas Hobbes, John Rawls, and Robert Nozick, as a lens to guide us through the taut debate about the role of…See More
