Looking for good dress shirts. Recommendations?

Same corporate parent as I understand it, and shirts worth looking into I think - Hickey Freeman. (But as said, not necessarily made-in-the-USA any longer.)

Classy and Rugged

Absolutely look at FIlson, wearing one of their merino wool shirts under a faux suede blazer with Levi 501s and Doc 1460s at work today ... a good look. I'll also put in a plug for some non-USA gear…

Shave your head?

I've been doing it on and off (I some times will grow a "winter coat" back) since '99. In that time I've almost exclusively used Mach3 razors, same as I use on my face. If you give it a going-over ev…

Funeral Attire?

yes, yes, I didn't mean to imply that... =-) I just wanted to sort of gather all the ideas I had seen and agreed with above (including the one you made about getting good charcoal trousers) into the…

Jeff Brendle replied to Travis's discussion 'hot-weather suits' in the group Suits
Well... you have options: for warm-weather there are tropical weight wools (perhaps with a bit of silk mixed in to lighten things up), silk itself, there are cotton poplins, cotton seersuckers, and the classic summer linens and silk-linen blends. A…

As someone who is over 40, I suppose my first question is: "what do you mean by 'Stylish'? " In my mind the Ivy & Fedora are stylish, albeit classically so & very traditionally manly so. Unlike, for instance what a fashion designer might do for a w…

I'd agree... Briefcase seems like a nice option, although someone who isn't a "go to the office" sort might make better use out of a different piece like the overnight bag for travel or some such. Perhaps giving the winner an option to pick between…

Ah yes, the lost are of conversation ... I know well about the "land mines" that need to be carefully avoided to keep the conversation friendly and pleasant. And one other point to always bear in mind... I think it was a bit of Jewish wisdom but I c…

A few months ago there was an article about how to be the perfect party guest. One of the points proposed involved men always being ready and prepared with good conversation. This group is a place to post current events and talking points.

I don't know about strange... I'll usually take the risk and try something new. Lately that's meant eating some more "genuine" Asian cuisine at the local restaurant: beef tendon, fatty pork, whole baby octopus. I don't think any of that is all that…

Soup-making is a good way to use various odds and ends, not a bad thing when trying to economize. Especially if you can do a bigger roasting exercise on the weekend to generate some leftover meat & broth. I've always thought that the more hands-on…

Great post with good advice! Something like a 3-5 cheese "flight" is about right & spot on about mixing up the animal source, the country source, the color, flavor, aroma & texture. Parmesan is indeed too hard and crumbly for this role, as you said,…

Profile Information

Interests
I'm always looking for good food, good drink, good people, good conversation, & good times.
Books
I'm a former English grad student, the list is long & distinguished... name something in modern American Lit & I'm likely to have either purchased it to read or have already read it. I also read Psych, History and Philosophy for "fun".
Movies
As much as I like brain candy from time to time, I prefer a movie with substance... think about a greatest movies list. I particularly like stuff from directors like Kurosawa, Coppola, Welles, Chaplain, Kubrick, Hitchcock & Gilliam.
Music
Eclectic and wide-ranging.
