One of the ladies there blustered, "Well, what are we going to do when they make it illegal to preach the Bible from our pulpits?" And my buddy answered her, "Well, then the worst they can do is kill us, right? And that's the best thing that could...

Actually, he (and Hugo Dyson) did -- according to Lewis, anyway. Then, in the fall of 1931, he had dinner with two faculty members, J.R.R. Tolkien, author of Lord of the Rings, and Hugo Dyson, a professor of English literature. After dinner, the ...

"God's end goal for us is NOT for us to be comfortable. It's for us to be mature, which means growing, which means a bit of pain" That reminds me of a discussion we had in a Bible study group yesterday (Sunday) morning, before church. We were dis...

One thing I picked up on in your OP: "Can we control God? ... Of course not. You'd have more luck telling the earth to rotate in the opposite direction." Didn't that happen once, in the Old Testament? ... but your statement still holds -- an even...

I always kind of thought of name tags the same as those "How's my driving?" signs on trucks; they're only there so the customer has the employee's name when they want to complain about or (more rarely) compliment the employee to management. I ten...

Yogi- First of all, I feel for you. You're in a lousy position for any husband/father to be; no one, man or woman, should have to deal with the kind of betrayal that you've dealt with in the past several months. I can't begin to tell you how much...

I love Evan Almighty. Morgan Freeman's God is good, but definitely not safe. And very entertaining.

I think that this goes along with Romans 8:28. We are not promised that life 'round here will be peachy. We are, actually, promised the opposite, and encouraged to consider it "pure joy." I've lost my job a couple times in the last five years, and...

I just last week finished reading the whole set to my kids. I have an 8ry old girl and 6- and 5-yr old boys. They loved it through and through (well, the 5yr old would often be asleep before the end of the chapter). They picked up way more than I ...

Last night late, I watched a few minutes of "Oh God" starring George Burns as "God". The character totally lacked any vestage of awe or majesty that is so clearly exhibited by the true and living God. George Burns as God is totally safe. But, to m...

Manliness and Morality in "The Art of Manliness"

Given the recent knuckle-rapping certain members of the AoM community have received with regards to their (our) insistence on bringing morality into our discussions, I thought it might be worthwhile to discuss it within the context of my own blog posting. It can't be "off-topic" if it is the topic, right?

I don't imagine that any man who considers himself a "real man" would argue against there being certain tenets of morality that we should all strive for. Here's a short list, for exampl… Continue

Jamie

Hello. My name is Jamie. I'm a man...but I can change...if I have to...I guess.

Apologies for the long title. Trying to think of a proper title for my introduction, my thoughts kept drifting back to Possum Lodge...

I've only been a member of AoM for about a week now, but I feel like I should make an entry here to introduce myself to the crowd and give a little background into where I'm coming from. Any who have read my comments in the various forums have probably already seen that I tend to get a bit wordy with my responses. I tell myself that this is due to an effort to c… Continue

Thank you for listening Jamie. I really don't have many friends that actually have a wife and kids nor care to how to treat them and give them emotional side of you that they most deserve. I have a real problem with putting my emotions out in the open for my family to see. I tell them I love them all the time but those are really just words. I would like to learn how to express my true feelings and show them physically that I deeply care and respect them unconditionally. I think my problems come from the Army and becoming so close to quite a few people only to see them killed in combat. I have become so numb emotionally it is hard for me let people see how i truely feel at risk of causing heartache. I know my family would never hurt me emotionally it is just something I really need work on. I appriciate your concern and any advise. Thank You.

Hahaha. It's about time. We have a lot in common..

Christian, Code Monkeys... We both have pictures of us holding guitars.

Well... I just can't play the real guitar. But I can have a picture of me holding a Rock Band guitar and have people THINK it's real!
