A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)

Started this discussion. Last reply by Ruben Cardenas Jun 12, 2015. 27 Replies

I've been curating all these recipes and stuff over the last two eyes that I finally decided to do something with. Just curious, have any of you guys made a menu—to plan out your meals beforehand? So…Continue

Love Seeking Understanding

Started this discussion. Last reply by Marlie Jan 14, 2013. 10 Replies

I have a love interest. She's a friend who lives far from me—very far (she lives in Missouri and I'm in California). I'll be asking for your thoughts (and tips) on that in a post a little later. In…Continue

Howdy, AOM Community

My name is Ruben and I am 33. I'm a bachelor and I live in sunny Southern California in the U.S. I can't remember where I first stumbled upon AOM (probably from the "Twittersphere" somewhere). This…Continue

"WOW. I posted this a long time ago and honestly didn't expect this much feedback! I feel awful and excited about it now. Awful for my absence (!!!), and excited for some really good ideas from you guys. I am SO sorry for the ridiculously late…"

StaggerLee replied to Ruben Cardenas's discussion A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)
"I plan weekly. I make a meal list then shop to the list. There's an app for that! My wife laughs whenever she recalls my best friend's and my bachelor fridge. Nothing in it but a jar of olives, beer and yogurt. There were two bottles in…"

Sir replied to Ruben Cardenas's discussion A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)
"We pay $11 to $20 for four, but 2 are toddlers.  11 is McD's and 20 is Mexican or Chinese."

Gentleman Engineer replied to Ruben Cardenas's discussion A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)
"I stand as corrected, as such expenditures are hardly sumptuous with such a family. I do concur that frequent dining at restaurants would fail to be the actions of an effective steward of the finances."

Jack Bauer replied to Ruben Cardenas's discussion A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)
"With a family of five, you'd be surprised how fast it adds-up.  At our worst, we were eating fast food a time or two a week, and dining out two or three times a weekend.  That's probably $25 a pop on the fast food, and…"

"My menu typically went like so... Breakfast - Bacon & Eggs Lunch - Steak Dinner - Steak & Eggs I've been married nearly 9 years, so it's been some time, but if my wife couldn't cook this would still do just fine for me."

Tarquin Anstruther replied to Ruben Cardenas's discussion A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)

Regular Joe replied to Ruben Cardenas's discussion A Monthly Menu (To Eat Out Less and Save Money)
"As a bachelor: never.  As a married man: yes. Weekly menus / game plans based on what we have in the fridge, what prep is required and who is going to cook it. During busy times, it's quite useful. "
