"Oh, I totally agree and personally back everything up on a separate external once a month. Trouble is, if it's been more than a month since the files were deleted, they're off the backup as well as it's been overwritten.   But,…"

"I haven't had any problems like this myself, but I think that this an excellent example of why we should all back up our data on a regular basis. I don't mean to be "that guy", but data losses like this are 100% preventable.…"

"Thanks Greg. I've not had the problem you are describing - but I do have my iPod set to manually sync, otherwise, same as you. I do not know if they are related.   At least you still have it on the iPod - there are various ways to retrieve…"

"Hi Liam, thanks for the reply. The answers would be yes, no, and iTunes is managing folders.   Here's an example: an album by an artist called Dave Hause, have it in my iTunes, and also on my iPod. Been on iPod for a long time. Just…"

"Questions.    Is your iTunes automatically syncing with your iPod?  Are you syncing between multiple machines? Is your iTunes set to manage your folders, or is it set to manually manage? "

"Bummer. Yeah, I really like iTunes and it's such an industry standard it's hard to want to change away from it. But having files go missing is just a killer. And how many are missing that I don't realize? Keeps me up at night... Greg"

"Is iTunes wiping it from your hard drive? You've probably already checked your Trash Bin, but just in case, I'm suggesting you do so. You can change the settings in iTunes so it doesn't mess with your music organized on your hard…"

"Hey David - No, ripped using iTunes, but not purchased through iTunes store. From what I've gathered from other reports, the bug is a random thing though, not related to where the music came from. I've yet to actually meet anyone who has…"
