Luck

Tommorrow I'll know if I got a scholarship or not. I was thinking about that and about how I'd be cursing my luck if I didn't get the scholarship. Then I realized that I'm already an incredibly lucky person. I have a loving and supporting family and, thanks to them, I got through high school and college. I was able to study what I want and dedicate myself to the things I love. I'm healthy and had access to many things that lots of people, including a  very high percentage of my countrymen, can…See More

Quote
“I must be myself. I cannot break myself any longer for you, or you. If you can love me for what I am, we shall be the happier. If you cannot, I will still seek to deserve that you should. I will not hide my tastes or aversions. I will so trust that what is deep is holy, that I will do strongly before the sun and moon whatever inly rejoices me, and the heart appoints. If you are noble, I will love you; if you are not, I will not hurt you and myself by hypocritical attentions. If you are true, but not in the same truth with me, cleave to your companions; I will seek my own. I do this not selfishly, but humbly and truly. It is alike your interest, and mine, and all men's, however long we have dwelt in lies, to live in truth. Does this sound harsh to-day? You will soon love what is dictated by your nature as well as mine, and, if we follow the truth, it will bring us out safe at last.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self-reliance

When can a kid pick his own damn hairstyle?!

If there is one thing my wife and I disagree on, it's when our two boys(ages 7 and 4) can have some independence. Now, I'm not saying I let my 4-year old walk to the gas station around the block for his own cigarettes or some such nonsense, but when they're allowed to play in the yard or go next door or pick their own clothes without constant supervision.     My wife is the controlling one in this area, and I, according to her, am far too easy-going. Both those facts are due to how we were…See More
