Life after combat

A former soldier of mine killed himself a couple of months back. Lost a battle between PTSD and a hand gun. Since then, I have been trying to create a site where vets who made it back from down-range and learned to cope and share their knowledge so that others may benefit and so no vet gets left behind. So I send out the call to you gents who are serving now, share what you have learned about dealing with PTSD and life after combat so that others may benefit and survive. My humble little site is…See More

"I hate to drop this, but isn't this whole exercise a bit unmanly? If they are unmanly, then we as those presumed to be manly should dismiss them and forget that they even exist. Also its a bit on the unmanly side to get all catty about who is a…"

Dan Wilden replied to Shaun Daws's discussion Question of the day #28 in the group Philosophers
"thats not new..... dehumanization and demonification have been part of the psychology of war since its outset. By making the enemy less like yourself it is easier to live with the horrors of war."

Missing my best friend

My father passed away on Memorial Day this year.  The entire family was at his house for one of his traditional cookouts by the pool.  There was always plenty of food, drinks, laughter, and memories at his cookouts. This day was no different with one major exception, dad wasn't feeling that well and didn't even get out of bed until mid morning.   As I am the oldest son, I was always the one groomed to step up and take over if dad was ever unavailable (which was rare).   I got to their house…See More
