C.C. Dolph replied to Uncle Sam's discussion 20 years old and enlisting tomorrow. Tips and thoughts?
"I owe a lot to my service too, and will always be proud of it. If I had gotten seriously injured, I may have felt differently, though. I was lucky to come out in one piece. I was lucky enough to have it enhance my life.…"

C.C. Dolph replied to Will's discussion Your sheeplike mind

C.C. Dolph replied to Nathan DeParis's discussion Study and Exercise
"It depends, of course. If you have a final in three hours that you've hardly studied for, you have no business going to the gym. But if you're on top of your game as far as time management goes, a work-out can get the brain juices going,…"

C.C. Dolph replied to Uncle Sam's discussion 20 years old and enlisting tomorrow. Tips and thoughts?
"Don't complain. Things are going to suck. You are going to be tired, physically and mentally pushed to your limit. You're going to be assigned pointless tasks, hard tasks, and impossible tasks. It's a mind game. Suck it up,…"

C.C. Dolph replied to Uncle Sam's discussion 20 years old and enlisting tomorrow. Tips and thoughts?
"Of course, I know it's not up or down, 0% or 100%. The way the man described his injuries, it would seem to warrant a %100 compensation, IMO.  I base my opinion on my personal experience with the VA. My…"

C.C. Dolph replied to Uncle Sam's discussion 20 years old and enlisting tomorrow. Tips and thoughts?
"It's strange that your friend does not have a 100% disability rating with the VA. I think he could easily get it, and with enough back pay to set him up pretty good. He would just have to go through the all…"

Profile Information

Interests
Argumentation and debate peppered with occasional sophistry, ethics, metaethics, political philosophy, comparative politics, religion and theology, metaphysics.
Books
I enjoy the classics of literature and philosophy. I've been working my way through the western canon of great books. I couldn't begin to name them all. I lament that I will likely never finish. So much to read, so little time on Earth... I also enjoy a good and easy read now and then. I'm not above reading for fun. Dan Brown and Stephan King have entertained me.
Movies
I only care for serious dramas.
Music
My tastes are diverse. Of contemporary flavors, I enjoy rock the most. I'm a fan of classical, especially the romantic era, and particulary the work of Tchaikovsky and Brahms. I also find liturgical chant pleasing.
Quote
"The fool, with all his other faults, has this also,-he is always getting ready to live." qtd. by Seneca

"Everybody hurts; take comfort in your friends." -Michael Stipe

What man can you show me who places any value on his time, who reckons the worth of each day, who understands that he is dying daily? For we are mistaken when we look forward to death; the major portion of death has already passed. Whatever years be behind us are in death’s hands. –Seneca

Alas, I have studied philosophy, the law as well as medicine, and to my sorrow, theology; studied them well with ardent zeal, yet here I am, a wretched fool, no wiser than I was before.
~ taken from Goethe's "Faust

“TAKE COURAGE AND BE A MAN” King David

“Whoever thinks much is not suitable as a party member: he soon thinks himself right out of the party."
-Nietzsche.
