Can you improve your mental abilities in this way?If so, how can it be measured? For instance, if I were to improve on a particular game that requires "focus", it could merely mean that through…Continue
"I owe a lot to my service too, and will always be proud of it. If I had gotten seriously injured, I may have felt differently, though. I was lucky to come out in one piece. I was lucky enough to have it enhance my life.…"
"I'll have to actually read the articles.
My initial impression, though, is that that the sheep/sheepdog dichotomy had more to do with those who sacrifice to protect the group and those that do not. I'm not…"
"It depends, of course.
If you have a final in three hours that you've hardly studied for, you have no business going to the gym.
But if you're on top of your game as far as time management goes, a work-out can get the brain juices going,…"
"Don't complain. Things are going to suck. You are going to be tired, physically and mentally pushed to your limit. You're going to be assigned pointless tasks, hard tasks, and impossible tasks. It's a mind game. Suck it up,…"
"Of course, I know it's not up or down, 0% or 100%. The way the man described his injuries, it would seem to warrant a %100 compensation, IMO.
I base my opinion on my personal experience with the VA. My…"
"It's strange that your friend does not have a 100% disability rating with the VA. I think he could easily get it, and with enough back pay to set him up pretty good. He would just have to go through the all…"

"First, what an excellent lecture! Thanks for the post, Dallas. I'm beginning to like your style.

I enjoy the classics of literature and philosophy. I've been working my way through the western canon of great books. I couldn't begin to name them all. I lament that I will likely never finish. So much to read, so little time on Earth... I also enjoy a good and easy read now and then. I'm not above reading for fun. Dan Brown and Stephan King have entertained me.
I only care for serious dramas.
My tastes are diverse. Of contemporary flavors, I enjoy rock the most. I'm a fan of classical, especially the romantic era, and particulary the work of Tchaikovsky and Brahms. I also find liturgical chant pleasing.

"Everybody hurts; take comfort in your friends." -Michael Stipe
What man can you show me who places any value on his time, who reckons the worth of each day, who understands that he is dying daily? For we are mistaken when we look forward to death; the major portion of death has already passed. Whatever years be behind us are in death’s hands. –Seneca
Alas, I have studied philosophy, the law as well as medicine, and to my sorrow, theology; studied them well with ardent zeal, yet here I am, a wretched fool, no wiser than I was before.

"I had assumed that was a joke, Herb!
We always used to say we hoped and prayed the school would burn down so we wouldn't have to go -- because it was torture, man! Not a joke I'd make in current circumstances, tho."
