Saunas and work culture

Have you ever done a sweat with work colleagues?  This article examines the importance of the sauna in northern European work cultures.http://www.bbc.com/capital/story/20161020-where-its-common-to-get-nude-with-your-colleagues Once I went to a spa in Germany with my US boss.  We were both familiar and comfortable with European clinical-style nudity, so it was a great sweat but not a big…See More

Vegetarian griddle food

Do you have a good recipe for veggie burger patties?  Ive seen some that call for lightly roasting black beans in the oven first for a more meaty, less mushy consistency, but most recipes call for 20 ingredients and are more geared towards filling the freezer.  Other good veggie options I can make on my griddle like sweet potato latkes or spinach and brown rice patties are also appreciated.  I tend to make a lot of bowl meals, but my sons prefer the griddle, so I'm interested in your ideas and…See More

Interests
I enjoy the outdoors, reading, writing, cooking and working with my hands. As a single dad, I am grateful for two sons who are my best teachers ever. It's important for me to have the intent to be the dad they deserve even as I fall short. This network is great for me to claim what I consider old school homosociality. As men we need to hang together and the rest is just window dressing.

Iron John, The Power of Myth and Henning Mankell thrillers

Harold and Maude, Cinema Paradiso Nuovo and My Life as a Dog.

There is no mystery about the origin of things. We are all part of creation, all kings, all poets, all musicians; we have only to open up, only to discover what is already there. ~ Henry Miller

Hi Anders! Nice Scandinavian-sounding name. Thanks for the image, I have put it on my profile. I think both Fenrir and Tyr have interesting stories for us men.

Fenrir is a wolf, son of two pseudo-gods (Loki and a giantess), who no one dares to approach. He accepts to be bounded with chains to test his strength.

Tyr has the courage to lose a part of himself, his hand, for the sake of the community and thus won a place of honor. He also respected Fenrir's will by touching his jaw while fettering him.

Each man has a little of Fenrir and of Tyr. Most of us are born from flawed parents, feel rejected at a point in our lives and accept constraints in order to proove our strength. But men also aspire to overcoming these weaknesses: without courage, honor and honesty, a man is not complete.

Personal and Political Advice from Rome.

His Holiness, Pope Francis, has a warning sign posted outside his office door.It begins "VIETATO LAMENTARSI"In English, "WHINERS PROHIBITED."The sign ends with “To get the best out of yourself, concentrate on your potential and not on your limitations. Stop complaining and take steps to improve your life.” The same advice, in a far, far blunter form, is found in a book."Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get A Life: A Kick Butt Approach to a Better Life."--Larry Winget, 2004See More
