The instrument fascia in my Series I was at one time brass plated by a previous owner. Although it looked quite nice for some time after it was done, in the 27 years that I have known this vehicle, the plating has bubbled and peeled, allowing elecrolytic corrosion to take place between the layers of dissimilar metals. I therefore decided to refresh the offending panel.

This past weekend, I was able to accomplish some (but by no means all) of my long-delayed automotive maintenance needs. I ran the 'Rover up to full operating temperature and exercised the clutch, all while enjoying that peculiarly British scent of warm 90-weight gear oil and overheated electrical insulation. I have made a credible start to my rewiring project in order to make it road-legal for the upcoming winter months, and we should also be ready for new Deep Bronze Green paint by the end…
