My Treasure Box

My four kids spent many days in their youth combing through my box: days they would set it in the middle of the floor and gather round and examine each memeory...occasionally had to retrieve things they'd take out and put in their rooms!

When my mother was pregnant with me, my grandpa and dad made this chest for me as well as probably 100 wooden "play blocks." As I grew up, the blocks remained inside the chest, and my teenage need for popularity kept the chest in the basement collecting dust.

After being gone for my college years and several for ol' Uncle Sam, I came across my chest and immediately picked it up to clean it and start using it. Now i keep my military odds and ends ive collected. Seems fitting!

I have had mine for over thirty years and the value grows over time and its use. I have placed things in this box that mean something to me for various reasons as long as I can remember. Each piece represents some event or thing of importance to me. In this case the box was my granddads and means as much as some of the items contained in it. I placed a photo of it and the contents a few weeks back in the photos section.

What makes for a good treasure box? Can you buy one?

I have been keeping these things for as long as I can remember but never thought of a "treasure chest" per se.  I kept them in vases and cigar boxes and when my lady friend saw them she thought it was the nicest thing she ever saw.  The idea of an actual treasure chest is a very good idea and I will be looking for just the right container for it.  I know how much I loved going through my dads, my granddad's, and my great granddad's tool chests and was facinated with them......this will be a great gift to my grandkids and great grandkids.

Kyle - good direction! All the stuff in mine was used somewhere along the way ... or was given by someone else - several from Dad. The newest (oldest?) addition - Dad passed in February, and Mom just sent me his Dad's Railroad Pocketwatch. LIttle research and learned it was manufactured in 1910 - and still works perfectly.
