I picked up this bowl Tuesday at a secondhand shop for $.50. It's unusual in that the bottom is round, I'm assuming it is some sort of rice bowl that is held in your hand. Shown with my new Simpson…Continue

I like Crystals and Astra SP, but a lot of folks don't much care for the Crystals. I really like all the Personna Blades actually. They just seem to work well for my skin type and shaving technique. As I improve on technique, I might like a sharper blade though.
Comment by Joseph Victor Newman on February 1, 2013 at 3:48pm @paul - Get a sampler pack with as many brands as possible and at least two, but preferably five, of each brand. Then you get to experiment and find out which is your best. Blades are so subjective that nobody else can tell you what will work for you.
Comment by Paul O Brien on January 28, 2013 at 7:18pm What blades would you guys recommend? I have been using Croma Diamante but they don't really cut it for me!

Comment by Paul O Brien on December 13, 2012 at 7:38pm Thanks Jax and Bill. I understand that they are dangerous but I would start off only doing my cheeks until I got used to the techniques and then start doing the more difficult parts.
Comment by Bill on December 12, 2012 at 11:00pm Paul, have you looked at any videos of people using a straight razor or shavette? They are both different from any safety razor you have ever used. You are shaving with a completely exposed blade. Your technique is absolutely critical when using a straight razor. If you get in a hurry or careless you can get a really nasty and potentially life threatening cut using a straight razor.

Comment by Jax on December 12, 2012 at 10:51pm Hi Paul
Very different comments from different people. I have never used a straight razor, but I have used a SE and an SE is very different than a DE so I assume a Straight would be even more different. A friend of mine has a shavette and it is very different from any DE shave he has done.
I'd say give it a try and see what you think.
Comment by Paul O Brien on December 12, 2012 at 8:41pm Hope your troubles resolve themselves soon, Bill.
Would ye recommend buying a straight razor folks or should I stick with DE? And if I were to buy one it would probably be one that I can change blades on. So it would probably shave the same anyway.
Comment by Jax on December 12, 2012 at 12:44pm Sorry to hear about your troubles, Bill. You and your family will be in my prayers for direction and guidance. Look forward to seeing you around here again when you can make it.
