What is all this talk about shaveing in cold water. I rinse my face after shaving with some cold water to close my pores.

I can't tell you that I really understand the concept behind this, but I think it has to with closing the pores and getting the facial hair to stand up so that it can be cut more closely.

There are folks that swear by it over at The Shaving Nook.  A site I've been really enjoying lately.  If you aren't a member, you should check it out.

Brett wrote an article about it a couple of years ago, but I haven't tried it yet. Sounds interesting, though.

I`ve been doing the cold water shaves for some years, after been led astray by the Hot Water brigade. ;-)

The experience are great, closer shaves with lesser efforts and I`m also drawing less blood from cuts and nicks. I do occasionally indulge in the hot water shave, but my mainstay for day to day shaving are with the cold water.

Tried shaving with cold water today. It was the first, and last, time I try it! Back to hot water for me!

It seems illogical to me, but until I've tried it for myself, I shouldn't offer an absolute opinion. I can say that warm water softens the hair making it easier to cut.

My dad said that during the war they had to shave using their helmets for sinks and with cold water and the chances for nicks and cuts were much more likely.

I like cold water shaves and think they do well.  I just do it in the warmer months though.  Can't really enjoy it early mornings before work when the apartment is around 55 degrees.
