Several popes have written on why Catholics can not become Free Masons.

It isn't possible, or at least not officially nor morally. Membership in Masonic organizations has been forbidden to Catholics since 1738. For a time, becoming a member meant automatic Excommunication. Since 1985, that stance was softened to membership places you in a "state of grave sin and unable to receive Holy Communion."

I am not a traditional Catholic man.  I have many Catholic friends however and I am rather familiar with the Catholic faith.  Does this mean that anyone would prefer that I not join you?  If so I will leave you alone.

John C. replied to Thomas James's discussion Paying off a large credit card debt vs. settlement? Are there pros? How bad are the cons?
"Federal law establishes basics, but each state gets to add to it, and those who execute the laws have wide latitude, so you need to know the players."

"Why does bankruptcy vary state-to-state?  Just the jurists involved?  Are state homestead laws part of the law governing b/k proceedings?  Obviously, b/k is a matter of federal statute and case law."
