Have you ever spent a few hours carving out the belly of a bow and when you start to start test bending it, it cracks!? I believe it was the wood I was using. Any opinions on wood type and the period…Continue

I have been an Archer my whole life. I first started on the farm in Saskatchewan making bows out of willows. I shot traditional, then compound and now I am going back to Traditional. I am currently reading Sam Fadala's Traditional Archery to make sure I do it right the first time. I highly recommend this book.

I'm going to say it first. Prepare for more people. The Hunger Games has gotten more people interested in traditional archery, so get ready with information and tips.

I am new to AOM and a traditional archer so I figured this would be a good place to get a start. I have been an active archer for about 10 years, I recently took about a year off for military training and travel, but I'm getting right back into it. I've shot various types of traditional bows from English artillery to Scythian horse bows. I look forward to some great discussion on here. Feel free to ask if anyone has any archery related questions.

I just picked up my custom take down long bow, it is very smooth. No hand shock, no stacking. I am shooting bamboo shafts with hand cut feathers and self knocks. Very sweet combination. Hitting a tennis ball at 25  yards second time out.

I use both recurve's and long bows, made by Jay St Charles

I am using a recurve, been doing so for +/- 8 months now. It is great, looking forward to improving. Just got  my correct sites for my bow, and wow the difference is incredible. beats the sight dropping after every third shot.

I have shot in the IKAC shoots which encourage more traditional archery: http://detommaso.org/ikac/ within the SCA. Anyone who is willing to throw on a Robin Hood tunic is welcome to come out and shoot with us. You would think that I was kidding if I told you how many long bows (and crossbows) I have but my neat new toy is a shelfless 41# Hungarian made "double recurve." I am trying to learn to use a thumb ring with it as well.... slowly.

I am a fan of the traditional "off the hand" English Longbow- although I am somewhat out of practice, it is a very satisfying form of archery.
