I worked like a dog for nearly 2 hours today installing landscaping around our neighborhood pool.  It felt so invigorating and masculine to be sweating like crazy and shirtless. It is a shame more men do not go shirtless nowadays. In past generations, even in the WWII era it was acceptable for men to be shirtless working outside more than it is today. I hate how our society has become so feminized in the last 30 years.

Today I decided to represent my brethren and make my first shirtless Home Depot visit. I'm on a full afternoon of yard work, and I need some sod to fill in. I had seen the palettes of sod just outside the garden center, so I figured it wouldn't be a big deal if I showed up with my shirt off. After a nearby appointment, I changed into my work shorts and sneakers in the car and left my t-shirt in my backpack. I drove to Home Depot and noticed the palettes of sod waiting for me. For sure I was apprehensive. What if someone said something? What if the gathering of outdoor cashiers giggled at me? So what! I look pretty damed hot, and seeing a sweaty shirtless man hauling rectangles of grass into his sedan is not the worst thing to look at. I parked, got my keys, phone, wallet and tape measure, and walked up to measure the size of the rectangles and calculate how much I would need. Then I walked back to the lot, grabbed one of those carts for heavy duty stuff, and strolled back to the curb. I loaded my 15 pieces, and hauled the cart to the cashier to pay. No big deal. The lady said nothing about my shirtlessness, and the security guard nearby said nothing either. I wished her a good day, in Spanish--it being South Florida--and loaded my purchase into my car, enjoying each second of breeze and sun on my skin. Granted, I didn't actually walk into the store, but baby steps. Besides, even though it is 80 degrees, it's not typical shirtless weather here. I drove home shirtless and cleaned up the mess in my car. The postman walked by. He's used to seeing me working in the garden in just my shorts by now. We said hello and briefly mentioned the NPR story that was playing on my little radio. I'm about to go make the patio pretty to enjoy the drops of sweat coursing down my shirtless, fine-ass body. Thank you all for joining all these great discussions on this forum and for being an encouragement to guys like me who just want to strip off their shirts and enjoy being men. Good afternoon to you all. HH

Ha ha!  Thanks buddy.  Hope you do the same!

Great story! That´s the way we live our masculinity and show our strenght and male power!

here´s a video of two guys starting out yard work shirted and removed them both after working a while:

great video!  it took them a while to lose the shirts but they looked much more comfortable once they finally did!

yeah... i also don´t start shirtless at work - and shed it off after working a sweat. that´s a great feeling.

But why are they taking those hemlocks down?

i don´t no... perhaps they need space for other things - or they need wood for a big bonfire... ;-)

I had another shirtless first today.  It's another yard work day, so I'm up to my eyeballs in dirt and weeds.  I had scheduled a visit from a curtain vendor to come measure three windows for new blinds.  They called from the office and told me he would be here in the late afternoon.  I confirmed with the guy and told him to call me when he arrived, since I'd be in the yard--of course, bare-chested.  I had already decided that I would not put on a shirt out of courtesy when he arrived.  He called, I answered the door, and we got down to business.  He measured three windows and suggested several types of shades.  We settled, I gave him a deposit, and he was on his way.  He didn't seem to mind that I was sweaty, gross and naked from the waist up.  But even if he had, I am dishing out good money for a service, so I can answer the door however I choose.

Another awesome shirt-free day!

HH

Another great story... I really wish it´s going to be summer fast, so I can do yard work shirtless, too.

As it should be HH, you should not feel you need to put a shirt on under those circumstances, you did the right thing!

I had a similar incident happen last summer while mowing my back yard.  My house is on a corner lot and I have a neighbor lady who lives right next to my house who doesn't really respect our property boundaries.  From time to time I will discover her in my back yard trimming my side of a hedge that separates my property from hers.  One afternoon in July, I was mowing and it was incredibly hot outside.  I was only wearing a pair of soccer shorts and sneakers.  Sweat was pouring off of me.  At one point I shut off my mower to add gas, turned around, and this lady was standing right in front of me in my yard about 5 feet away.  She was wanting to talk about some stray cats that had taken up residence under my shed or something.  I suddenly felt . . . over exposed I guess.  It felt weird to be standing there, naked except for a pair of relatively short, shorts, talking to this fully clothed woman.  I routinely take my shirt off while I'm mowing.  And I am shirtless a lot during the summer while at the lake or at a swimming pool.  And even though any person who drives by when I'm working in the yard can easily see that I'm not wearing a shirt, there was something that just felt weird about being shirtless in front of this lady up close like that.  It made me feel very self conscious and uncomfortable.
