I worked like a dog for nearly 2 hours today installing landscaping around our neighborhood pool. It felt so invigorating and masculine to be sweating like crazy and shirtless. It is a shame more men do not go shirtless nowadays. In past generations, even in the WWII era it was acceptable for men to be shirtless working outside more than it is today. I hate how our society has become so feminized in the last 30 years.

This is one of the wonderful things about heat, summer, sweat and doinig work outside.
There are certain male friends that work out together outside. After the grueling hour and half session, we all have to hug each other singly and then in a group. It is sharing sweat, smells, and bond us until we meet again.
Permalink Reply by Harry Haulover on November 8, 2012 at 3:06pm I go shirtless at home as often as possible. I recently discovered how much I enjoy yardwork, and I think it's mostly because I can spend hours outdoors shirtless. I like putting on gloves and ripping down vines, raking, watering plants. In the afternoon sun, it gets pretty brutal, and I enjoy feeling sweaty. I don't bother to put on a shirt going out front either. Watering the front lawn or taking out trash and recyclables, I'm sure the neighbors are aware. No one seems to mind though, and I always say hello. It just started turning a little cooler here in South Florida, and yet I'm geared up right now for some gardening. No shirt in sight.
Permalink Reply by Harry Haulover on November 28, 2012 at 7:56pm I'm getting a little concerned that people are putting up their Christmas displays way too early in the season. Some of my neighbors had their lights up in early November. Too soon, I think. However, today was my turn. Even though it's still a few days to December, my street has been lighting up, and I didn't want to be left behind.
I am blessed in Florida with warm weather. So today since 1:30 this afternoon, I have been stringing lights climbing up and down to the roof, drilling, testing, plugging, and all in just a pair of jeans and sneakers. Nothing brings in the holiday season here than putting up your holiday extravaganza bare-chested. I hope my shirtless brethren can enjoy the same.
Happy Holiday Season!!
Permalink Reply by Harry Haulover on January 23, 2013 at 4:02pm Another shirtless day in the yard!
After a few errands this morning, I came home, stripped to my jeans and started tending the yard. I have replanted, watered and fertilized. I was out front trimming some plants when the mailman came by. He heard I was listening to NPR and said he listened all the time as well.
No shirt until at least 5:30 today!
Permalink Reply by Tarquin Anstruther on January 24, 2013 at 10:16am Harry, trying to make us jealous! I'm in Ireland in freezing conditions, don't even want to take my clothes off to get into bed! I'm a great fan of wearing as little as possible, but the weather does not help.
Permalink Reply by Harry Haulover on January 25, 2013 at 7:12am Oh Tarquin, I feel for you and I apologize for my insensitivity. I'm in South Florida, and our "winter" here features temperatures in the 70's (that's 21C to 24C). I wake up every morning watching news of the cold up north in New York and in the Midwest, and I realize and I am grateful that I live in paradise. I get to sleep naked every night, and wake up in the morning, shower, put on just shorts and start my day. I am a very thankful man.
Perhaps it's your time for a holiday, no?

Permalink Reply by Rick Stevens on January 25, 2013 at 2:43pm Harry, I live in the Houston area and we experience the same weather as Florida. Like you, I enjoy being shirtless and sleep naked year round.
Permalink Reply by Harry Haulover on January 27, 2013 at 8:42am Cheers to you Rick. Like in Florida, I know that you get to complain about the oppressive humidity Houston's summer brings. But I think it's a fair trade off for being able to wear fewer clothes throughout the year.
I just walked outside with my morning coffee in my pajamas--that is, naked--and it's a brisk 70 degrees. What a way to start a Sunday!
(Seriously, no offense to those who have seasons, but I was born into perpetual summer, and I'll keep it. Thank you.)

Permalink Reply by Rick Stevens on January 27, 2013 at 2:56pm Good to hear from you Harry. I worked outside all day yesterday shirtless and in shorts. It was near 80 degrees. Felt very masculine and energizing. Transplanting stuff, raking, burning, etc. I have enjoyed a naked evening on my deck several times. We have a large wooded 1/2 acre lot and love the breeze blowing on my manly body like that. Its great to be a guy!!
Permalink Reply by Harry Haulover on January 31, 2013 at 3:32pm Good afternoon Rick. I'm having your kind of day today, although it's a bit cooler--mid-70's here today. Went to Home Depot, came home and stripped off my shirt. Lots of yard work today. Still watering and transplanting now. Breeze feels awesome on the bare chest.
