The most innapropriate/awkward place i have been shirtless was a my church.

We were in the process of building our basement and doing lots of sweaty man stuff so i was of course shirtless. The only working water fountain was located upstairs in the main lobby so i went to grab a drink not knowing that there was a WIC (Women in the Church) meeting going on... whoops.

Would love to hear some of your stories

I was a my office at an insurance co. They brought in a local hospital staff for flu shots. i was the only man in my dept. Our dept was strongly pushed to get the shots. We all lined up, I sat in a chair, pulled up my shirtsleeve, it wouldnt go over my bicept, I had to take my tie and shirt off, no undershirt. The howls and whistles I got from my dept still ring in my ears.
Howls and whistles are good! Wear the same shirt again next year. :)
Would like too, laid off. Now I just go shirtless around the house, sweatpants or jeans.
wonder about that myself sometime...yard work, pools etc seem appropriate...personally I like to drive without a
shirt...always wonder if th e police might look at your harder for doing it thou...

you can't go to a movie or restaurant without a shirt...maybe a drive thru?
Would it be acceptable to go to Sonic or a drive thru shirtless? haha
YEP!...so far as i know not illegal and any state..good if it is summer..used to have convertible and did it then
I can't think of anywhere I'd have to wear a shirt while driving, including drive-thru's, unless maybe it's a cold day. Then I'd just appear weird. Appropriateness is often in the context and can change from time to time in the same place. But my car is my place. I can do what I like.
True, but those leather seats can get cold here in Ohio

Haha! That's why I never buy leather seats.  I go out of my way to order standard cloth seats. They are cooler and less sticky in summer, warmer in winter, feel better in shorts and/or shirtless, more easily cleaned and repaired, don't smell in the heat and cost less.  It's amazing what most people do for status.

BTW These days cops might look a little closer at a shirtless guy simply because it has been less common. If more guys would wear a shirt only when they need one, it would be more common and nobody would really take notice.
Good question. Personally, I think that the most appropriate place for a guy to go shirtless if he wants is at the gym. I've always been baffled by the fact that guys can't workout shirtless in most gyms any more. It used to be that shirt-free was the norm. Nobody much thought about it. There's no easier or better way to keep cool than just do without a shirt. Now, we have excessive air conditioning, a more co-ed environment and an obsession on body-image. Even fit guys say they don't look good enough to take it off. BTW, health reasons are not an issue. The equipment gets sweaty with or without a shirt. Gentrification has taken over to the point where a shirt is compulsory and few men complain.

A few years ago I was inquiring at a major health club chain that a friend had recommended. During the facility tour I was told (almost scolded) that men had to wear T shirts...not tank tops, not sleeveless, a full T. I stopped in my tracks, shook my head and said, "You must be joking." She said, "No sir, and it's carefully enforced". I immediately said goodbye and left.
Good for you. A friend of mine said that when he was in the Navy, they worked out in just jockstraps. I read a book about the history of the YMCA and it wasnt until the 1970s that men wore trunks in the pool. I found out they they enforced nude swiming because mens suits were wool and they didnt want to clog up the filters, then it just became the norm, more like a right of passage, when you went swimming in the Y for the first time with dad or uncles. Miss that

Women: The Infallible Baromoter

Jon Quincy Adams once said,“From all that I have read of history and government of human life and manners, I have drawn this conclusion, that the manners of women were the most infallible barometer to ascertain the degree of morality and virtue of a nation.”To get the thread rolling or spinning I would say he is right to a very high degree. What say yous guys.See More
