The Supreme Court upheld President Obama's health care law today in a splintered, complex opinion that gives Obama a major election-year victory.

Basically. the justices said that the individual mandate -- the requirement that most Americans buy health insurance or pay a fine -- is constitutional as a tax.

Chief Justice John Roberts -- a conservative appointed by President George W. Bush -- provided the key vote to preserve the landmark health care law, which figures to be a major issue in Obama's re-election bid against Republican opponent Mitt Romney.

I haven't seen anything say yet. Was it just 5-4?

Yes. Roberts was the tie breaker.

(is it too early for an "I told you so?") :D

Next up will be a tax on anyone who doesn't vote for the Socialist party in a local or national election.  Why the hell not?

Maybe this a pathetic attempt by the Supreme Court to jump start the economy by raising gun sales. Someone needs to smack them because that is not their job.

What does this have to do with gun sales?

Obama is already the top salesman for guns, in history.

Throw in this wildly unpopular law that a majority of Americans actively do not want, being shoved down our throats, and you have a recipe for dissent.

Guns are a popular way to express that dissent.

If I had the extra cash, I'd buy some stock in Remington, Glock, and a couple of other choice companies.

Well duh he is a great salesman, wasn't it 2000 guns to teh Mexicans?

Otherwise, I'd say the greatest salesman is paranoia. Means gunshows are going to get stupid expensive again, then in 2 years we should see some really good deals from guys who bought more than they could really afford.

They're the ultimate arbiters of this stuff, so by definition they're "right."  But, this is a dark day for the Republic, and for what she no longer stands.

This is a dark day.

Another perspective is that it provides an issue for congress critters to run on. It may be constitutional but Congress can still repeal it if the Rs can get the seats in the Senate.

Will Obama keep saying this is not a tax? Now that the Supreme Court claims it is a tax in order to rule in favor of it will Obama keep claiming otherwise?

Well, I'm not sure even *his* supporters are stupid enough to believe that, any more.

Never underestimate stupidity.

Very true. Shouldn't underestimate stubborn denial or the power of fear, either.
