What do you guys think of Rhodesia?

I think it was overall a good thing, and that bringing it down was a tremendous mistake on the part of the Zimbabweans.

Absolute political control by a significant minority to stave off the originally planned independence to the black majority for reasons mostly related to race, power, and land control?

Unless you have a significantly different narrative, I'm not sure I can agree that "it was overall a good thing."

That's not to say that Mugabe hasn't been a huge problem, but I don't think maintaining another defacto apartheid state was a reasonable alternative.

Yep. Saying that Castro is bad doesn't negate that Batista had to go.

It reminds me of voting for one candidate that you don't especially like, just to be voting against the other candidate, whom you dislike even more.  Hmm.

My parents were missionaries in the 1940s in what was called back then Southern Rhodesia.  I remember my mother seeing pictures of the outdoors in Zimbabwe and having wonderful memories come to her.  (I was conceived just after they returned to the U.S. in 1949, so I personally do not have a direct connection there.)
