Take the Test Here

Was shown this political social/economic test that places you on a four-way axis, opposites being Libertarianism/Authoritarianism and Left and Right.

Although clearly not completely accurate, it's interesting.

Just thought I'd share this, I found it quite interesting, where do you lie?

My result showed me to be Centre-Right Libertarian: 6.75,-2.41

No time to fool with the test just now, but page one looked rigged towards you giving absolutist answers to the questions.

That's the whole point; it wants you to take a strong stance because if everyone can answer "it depends" or "I don't know" or "I don't care" to every question then everyone other than extremists will show up as centrists.

I straddle the line between libertarian and authoritarian, on the right side.

Its worth noting how far right they put Obama on this thing ...

Doesn't inspire much confidence in their magical grid system.

Though, many of us on the left feel he is very nearly that far right in truth... in fact most "progressive liberal" labeled politicians in America are pretty far right compared with a more global scale. It's a matter of perspective. Obama is pretty far left of Boehner, but pretty far right of most actually liberal politicians (who would have no chance of being elected to high office, in the US as it stands now).

Part of why we think it's hilarious when he is labeled a socialist. He's nothing of the sort.

Everybody's selling something.  Seems the creator of this grid's trying to sell the same line many of you on the left are.  That's also doesn't inspire much confidence.  From the perspective of the far left, maybe he is to the right.  From the perspective of everybody else in the country, he isn't.  This grid is clearly authored from an extremely left-leaning perspective.

He's labeled a socialist because that's the framework from which he governs.  He doesn't accomplish everything he'd like, and his half-measures sometimes fall short of what y'all leftists might dream of ... but, socialism underlies every step he takes, regardless of how small it is.

This "compass" was constructed to sell Obama to the middle-right, or otherwise to push toward Gary Johnson.  Nothing more.  I took the quiz ... and lined up fairly close to Obama on the left-right spectrum.  I'm opposed to roughly everything he's ever done ... and we're within a single or two grid squares left-right (though fairly far apart on the A-L spectrum, but in the same quadrant).

Its worth asking why somebody would write a grid that comes out that way ... with many far closer to Obama than they'd've guessed, and most on the right coming out near Gary Johnson rather than Mitt Romney.  There's always an agenda.

"This "compass" was constructed to sell Obama to the middle-right"

You realize that the compass has existed under various names since the early 60s, right? (And that the current compass site has been around for over a decade and is based in the UK?)

I was speaking of this specific grid/questionnaire, and the 'strategic' placement of 2012 candidates for voter suggestion.  The four quadrant system may have been around for a while ... this questionnaire and voter guide have not.

and is based in the UK

I assume you think that proves your point rather than mine.

According to this grid, there apparently exists no candidate on the authoritarian left in the United States.  Not a single one.  The leftists are all "libertarians" ... and all the authoritarians are on the "right".  Including Obama.  The authoritarian left is just a mirage we conservatives imagined.  The true authoritarians are just conservatives that are cleverly disguised as leftists ... and the true leftists are just libertarians that happen to want a very "libertarian" command-and-control economy.

No agenda there at all.  What a joke.

LOL! How many times have I stated on AoM that Obama is neither socialist nor leftist? ;)

Just another leftist talking-point ... trying to mainstream the outside-of-mainstream by claiming Obama isn't what he is.  Clever.  Still not buying it.

You've got it all figured out.

Ridicule and dismiss.  You'll have to do better than that.

Colorado gymnastics teacher Dylan Schuetz falls 100 feet down cliff, lands on his feet

Did any of you see this story?  Colorado gymnastics teacher Dylan Schuetz was cliff-climbing recently with some of his buddies, when he fell some 100 feet.  Amazingly, he survived, albeit with both legs broken, and says he put his gymnastics training into use the moment he lost his grip.  He also happened to be shirtless at the time, which is common for male cliff climbers.  And, as a former gymnast, I know most guys practice gymnastics shirtless.  I certainly hope he makes a complete recovery…See More
