As the ban on 16 ounce beverages begins to shape up in New York City, the "Health" panel is already discussing moving on to bigger and better things. Two fresh new ideas are bans on popcorn and milk sizes. Here's the article for reference. I left the comment: "Once the camel's head is in the tent, prepare to sleep with it." What say you?

One word comes to mind. "Ridiculous."

Big Brother has a name, and it is Bloomberg.

Choice is only appropriate when it comes to killing babies. Besides the killing of babies the stupid masses are not intelligent enough to make their own decisions so decisions will be made for them.

Ya just gotta love "Progressive" politicos.

By that I mean the current incarnation, not so much the original crew that was anti-corruption, pro human dignity (albeit a rather flawed concept of how much dignity which humans rated) and dedicated to providing adequate sanitation, safe water and safe foods & drugs.

The Progressives have demonstrably gone from regulating and banning practices known to cause immediate harm to banning things on the basis that "someone, somewhere, might overdo something".

Even progressives don't love this bit of legislative overreach.

It seems we have less and less common ground these days; it's good to remember what common ground we do have.

And take action accordingly.  Don't think the rest of us outside NYC can do much to help New York.  But we can take action in our localities, or nationally, when we agree on something.

Actually, this means I wouldn't get to enjoy the ironic theatre sights like the guy who entered a showing of "The Passion of the Christ", carrying a 2.5 gallon bucket of popcorn and a quart-sized soda.

(That's irony folks, Ah said irony!)

it would have been more appropriate to have brought in a fish sandwich and a wineskin of grape juice.. ;)

EJR--

Ah made an ironic commentary on the sort of guy who'd think to buy popcorn and soda on his way to a viewing of a crucifixion.  More of a pagan Romanesque sort of thing to see.

Which movie, BTW, proved there are Italians who are just as dedicated re-enactors as those guys who re-fight the American Civil War each weekend.

(Those fellas would be the legionaires in the film...check the credits!)

maybe you guys will evolve to having milk in bags....

Actually, being old school, I prefer having my milk delivered in glass bottles to my front porch twice a week.  Ideally,  with the ability to order butter, eggs and cheese for the same delivery.

And that Safeway grocery delivery just isn't the same thing.

Another institutional approach to solving a personal problem. Also, it sends the message to fat people that its not their fault, but rather the fast-food chains. Apparently Bloomberg thinks humans aren't capable of making good food choices.
