OK. The General election is over. The campaigning for 2016 hasn't started -- yet. (There was a rumor that Iowans had started a pool as to whether it would be hours or months before the first 2016 campaign office would open in Des Moines.)

Lots of smiling faces here in Chicago this morning. At least those that were not too bleary eyed after sitting up to watch the speeches and have late night toasts.
A bit of disappointment for some local elections - but ultimately, lots of people ready to get to work, is the overriding impression here. "Ok - that's done, now let's go do our jobs."

Pretty straight forward. I simply don't see this mythical mass of people waiting for government freebies. I see a city (even here in soviet chicagostan) full of people who have a job to do, and are happy to do what needs to be done.
I bust my ass for every dollar every day, and most people here do the same. Rhetoric aside - we're not fundamentally different, you and I. Nor do I believe that to be the case for the vast majority of the country - regardless of our politics.

I don't consider you to be unintelligent so I will just keep the other possibilities to myself.
Unemployment is up and the group where unemployment is the highest voted for him with the highest percentage. More people are now on welfare than before. Then man actually said we need to redistribute the wealth around and then says the rich need to pay more in taxes and then signs Obamacare.
If people were really wanting to find a job and go to work everyday they would have voted for Romney.

Liam has a point; a guy working for the gov't at any level is also doing a job. Then again, in the strict sense--so is a criminal. But maybe that's not a good place to go with this argument.
Back to the job; the gov't could end up employing everyone, they'd still be doing jobs. Of course, what worth would those jobs be? How do you find out whether a job is worth anything?
The liberal answer is really: It's always worth working for the gov't. The more, the merrier. Otherwise, it would be impossible to justify the massive increases in people working for the gov't vs. people working, but not for the gov't, as percentages of the population. As some liberals are apt to point out: Consider how many private businesses do business with the gov't--they're not freemarket fanatics whether they like it or not. That deal is done; & perhaps it cannot be undone.
So long as the increase of gov't control over property in the economy is open-ended, then the worth of the job is judged only by gov't approval. Like in all countries where the gov't controls more than half the yearly GDP... People who think they're job is worth their time independent of the gov't are apparently simply kidding themselves.

I am deeply saddened by Obamas' reelection. I think it is a horrible statement that our nation now officially favors a father figure Santa Clause character for a Government, dolling out freebies to the masses instead of the self respect and dignity of providing for themselves. The "Great Experiment" of self reliance, independence and individual personal responsibility is pretty much over. It's been on a steady decline since the beginning of the 20th century, and it is in it's death throws now. Americans now would rather have the Government provide for them than Man up and take care of themselves. They equate the theft of taxation as some (hilariously) form of "compassion". They think wanting to keep your money that you earned is greed, but wanting to take what other people have produced and redistributing it is somehow NOT an act of greed.
On the state and local level, I couldn't be happier. The Republicans have more or less completely taken over the state of North Carolina.
