Saw the funny cartoon below this morning and it brought this subject to mind. Atheism is on the rise today. Why do you think that is? What does atheism have to offer?

Indeed. I am fully confident that my literary excesses are tolerated, not to say enjoyed, by some small number of men here. After all, some here take my opinions as something to consider. I see some humor in being accused of being too academic, too absconse, too removed from common sense... At any rate, the dreary fate that befalls the sesquipedalian holds no terrors for me-

Verbosity disguised as erudition. "Baffle them with Bullshit," in other words.

Which doesn't work like it used to work. There's a quote about every society that rebels killing its "intellectuals." My observation is - every society kills off its SELF PROCLAIMED intellectuals. In short - those who use verbosity in place of erudition.

Or, and this is worse - they'll just ignore you.

I do not know you. Do you know me?

Killing intellectuals, whoever proclaimed them, I have never found that it is a good idea. I hope your stupidity has not come to the point where you are inclined to approve of whatever tyrants or mobs might give themselves over to the meaner passions. I hope your stupidity is not compounded by the ignorance of what happened to Socrates-

Ahoy Titus...!

As for me... I enjoy the creative verbosity of your purposeful & eloquent ramblings... It is not often I come across words during casual conversation that necessitate a trip to the on-line dictionary... for this, I am grateful to feast of what crumbs may fall from your table... :)

While flattery is usually a form of intellectual flatulence, this is not my intention... I am merely giving thanks for your superlative sesquipedalian loquaciousness... it is an art form in and of itself, and critics be damned...!

Titus, you've made an uncivil ass of yourself in this forum. Take a breather.

Careful, Titus. It appears you might be being groomed...

If that is the best you can come up with, JED, I must not be trying hard enough...

Danger, I just saw it, too, thanks for the heads-up. I figure a man goes through life balancing the EJR's against the DA's & what you get at the end, is away.

Not to be rude or disrespectful (and certainly I am not looking for an argument) . . .

And you didn't get one, either.  If only!

And glad I am!  In the end all of this is a childish game of "last word"!

by itself atheism offers nothing... as said above, however combined with Buddhist Dharma or similar life philosophies, and Science... you have a perfect match...  I am personally an agnostic because I do not think closing my mind towards spirituality is good for me, and I wish to remain open to being shown truth under scientific methods

Since you're quoting a post that JB made and attributing it to me I'd have to say that you're not trying hard enough or you really have totally lost what little bit of mind you had.
