Gents,
Being that I am on a college campus I see signs and posters advertising "Diversity" everywhere I go. My school even has a an office for 'Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs' and the student body president who was just elected used diversity as one of her platforms.
I wanted to get the guys' input on 'diversity'. From what I've read (admittedly from conservative sources) 'diversity' carries with it the inherent flaw that racism is made up of, namely that the color of one's skin or one's ethnic background determines a person's thoughts. In other words, a black person will have 'black' thoughts, an Asian will have 'Asian' thoughts, and so on. And the more I think about this, the truer it is. The people who push 'diversity' on campus truly believe in this school of thought that a person's worldview is determined by their skin color or ethnicity. Truer still, at least in my mind, is how similar this is to the blatant racism this country once knew- that blacks were different, and had a different mental capacity, by virtue of being black.
The more I read into 'diversity' the more flawed I see it. However, I believe that people have bought into it and actually do think they have a different world view because they're different. There are undoubtedly black people on my campus who believe they have a different thoughts because they are black; the same goes for other groups who aren't white. But how absurd this is- "you think differently because you're black"- crazy! We're all human- we think the same! Our mental capacity is not different based on our skin color and to think otherwise is insane as I see it.
*rant over*
Here's a good (conservative) source on the subject: http://www.aynrand.org/site/News2?news_iv_ctrl=1076&page=NewsAr...
What do you gentleman think of diversity? Is it a good thing or should it be done away with? Thoughts?

The first paragraph is what I am concerned with. Didn't mention a thing about individuals, wasn't remotely what I talked about. You referenced my name, but not my thoughts. If you can't get straight what is right there before you, how are we able to remotely judge anything else you say as having any relevance to reality or the topic at hand. Proving you create arrguments for the oppostition in which you can "brilliantly" tear down, but as so often shown by your complete incompetence in interpreting even what I plainly say that your brilliance is merely masurbatory in that you never actually refute what was really said.
Logic must lead us to the conclusion that I must be above your head because you have to change what I said to sustain these arguments not only against me, but any claimed opposition to any single argument you pose

Tell me, Shields, outside of your general incompetence in writing sentences -- does not that sentence imply a 'from / to each other' at the end? Us different from whom? - That is the germane question. If from each other, then we are individuals, no? Get the hell out of here-
This is getting just downright pathetic, are you telling me that you base your argument against me on a single sentence rather then the overall message of my entire point? Usually, the first sentence of a paragraph is only opening the paragraph, it isn't the entire point of the paragraph. Words are a part of a sentence, a word outside of a sentence can have different meanings. A sentence outside of the paragraph can be interpretted differently without the paragraphs support. ANd the paragraph removed from the whole argument is just a paragraph, it isn't the argument.
Go back again, I discussed the importance of groups, that took up the vast majority of the post because that was the point of the post.
Taking a sentence out of context to create an argument is cowardly in that you can't refute the rest, but you can imagine a defense against what was never even stated.
So yes, everything about us shapes us, but that everything ties back into group membership. Now that I know that you are actually Romanian, you make more sense as per my interactions with other Romanian males. As a group you guys seem incapable of saying you are wrong, you live to argue bullshit minutia and you are stubborn mofo's(kinda like me on that last one). Now I know that, I use what I learn through diversity to be able to interact.
DIversity being how group memberships influence, create, form, blah, blah, blah the individual. It isn't remotely how the individual is unique, it is finding a similarity with another and how those traits fit in with your group influences.
Most everyone else here at AoM can follow what I write, most can argue my main points as they aren't hard to find, try to keep up or we will continue to have the EXACT same interaction in every single thread where I have to tell you to stop making up things about what I say and to discuss what I actually say. THis is becomeing almost daily with you, but I have to say it is getting more and more fun watching you create arguments that never existed and tearing you down.
Permalink Reply by Titus Techera on April 13, 2012 at 11:24am Shields, you are unfortunately an idiot. Otherwise, you would see that you can either argue that the human beings fundamentally function as groups or as individuals, but not both. Religion, culture, geography - factors you mentioned - are predicated seriously either of a group or of an individual. If you decide with the one, you must argue that the other is derivative. Now, pick one, you daft bastard, pick one!
Burden of proof is on you for why I can't argue for both. Simpky saying I can't or calling me an idiot isn't an argument, it is a statement with nothing backing it up,
I have already proven that you falsely create opposition to your arguments to win, you still have yet to actually argue against what I initially said. I can't take your insistance that something must be one way or another if I continually prove that you can't even properly read and interpret what I write.
Permalink Reply by Titus Techera on April 13, 2012 at 12:42pm Shields, I do not mind proving both to you. I just can't bring myself to believe you care.

Rare indeed is the creature that can soar to your intellectual hights without getting burned by the radiance of your incredible, inciting insights.
Mindlessness, third-rate Hegelianism, supremely ignorant, stupid people.... how divine of you to descend among us and bless us with your eloquent reprimands. We should be taking notes.

I took thee for thy better.
Permalink Reply by John Muir on April 13, 2012 at 3:53pm Why are you quoting a Shakespeare line in which the dude was calling some woman a skank who'd two-timed a guy?
It's just not applicable, and kind of wierd to try?
Are you quoting Hamlet's tirade against Gertrude just cuz it's flowery, pseudo-profound sounding?
