Inspired by Cody's recent reading of Hesiod, from the Theogony:Μουσάων Ἑλικωνιάδων ἀρχώμεθ᾽ ἀείδειν,αἵ θ᾽ Ἑλικῶνος ἔχουσιν ὄρος μέγα τε ζάθεόν τεκαί τε περὶ κρήνην ἰοειδέα πόσσ᾽ ἁπαλοῖσινὀρχεῦνται…Continue

Comment by Rebekah on February 6, 2013 at 9:54pm I felt the book The Swerve was 1/3 too long. After More/Erasmus the connection wasn't close enough, and I felt the author was fishing for a way to make Lucretius relatable to contemporary folks.
Comment by Vytautas on February 6, 2013 at 9:45pm Lucretius invented the swerve! Plus the recent book called the Swerve, written by some fancy pants professor, was pretty banging.
Comment by The Original Cody on February 5, 2013 at 11:21pm Lucretius is too busy licking Epicurus' ass to come up with anything original...
Comment by Rebekah on February 5, 2013 at 8:29pm My "fancy" book club read some letter by Epicurus meant to summarize his teachings. Later we read what we could of Philodemus. Everyone liked Lucretius better.
Comment by Vytautas on February 5, 2013 at 8:17pm I haven't read any Epicurus. I try to resist the rumors that he is a hedonistic glutton who enjoys bubble parties and orgies in golden tubs of caviar. Share some of his stuff with us!
Comment by The Original Cody on February 4, 2013 at 11:05pm So I was reading some Epicurus today... I now remember why I generally stick to the poets and historical account.... and stay away from philosophy...
Comment by Vytautas on January 21, 2013 at 10:43pm Trying to pull people back to the group with some more translation!
Comment by The Original Cody on November 20, 2012 at 12:48am I just mean simple things... like the Moirai are the children of night.... then 600 lines later they are actually the children of Zeus and Themis.
