The Tyrannicides or Tyrannnoctones - Harmodius and Aristogiton, in the Naples Archaeological Museum

Horse and Jockey of Artemision.

I'm not familiar with this one... where was it found, when does it date to? Where is it now?

They found it in the sea (why it wasn't melted down) off the coast of Artemision in Greece. Apparently it is from the Hellenistic Era (ca. 140 BCE).... and I believe it is in the National Archeological Museum of Athens.

The statue was found in the same place as that famous bronze of Zeus/Poseidon.

The horse's face is an awesome display of emotion and musculature. I'd like to see that part closer. But the combination with the child seems almost comical!

This  one's interesting, Cody.

A detail from the Allegory of the Nile. Roman copy of alexandreian original, in the Vatican.

A lovely crocodile playing with babies. Alexandreia was the cradle of scientific realism, and perhaps as well that of anti-realism, no?

so we're only doing ones where a picture is relevant. Aristotle's Physics doesn't count?

I'll have to think then.

Create a new thread for literature, or on Aristotle or just that work itself!

Better yet, post a translation challenge from the Physics...

I don't even know the alphabeta, so I couldn't judge a translation.

Still! You could have fooled us if you didn't say anything.

I've never read the physics... maybe I will and I'll pick out a passage.
