Hey guys,

I am running more 5ks, 10ks and mud runs now and I would love to hear what shoes you all use for running.  I am currently using ASICS Gel 3030. I like them, but I'm not sure I LOVE them.

has anyone used the ALTRA zero drop shoes?  I like the concept, but I want to hear from a real person before buying those.

I currently alternate between 2 pairs as I'm doing quite a bit of mileage at the moment: ASICS GT 2170 and New Balance M860SB2. Like both of them although I find the 2170s have more cushioning. Don't know about ALTRA zero drop shoes though...

I admit I'm a rank amateur, but I am making significant gains.

For the last year I've been using minimal shoes, ranging from "aqua socks" to test the concept, to some of the toe shoes.  My latest pair is the Fila Skeletoes 2.0 model.  Remarkably comfortable, and they let me add about 20% to my distance without significant difficulty.  Of course, they encourage a forefoot strike.

Traditional running shoes do not work very well for me.

I just bought my first pair of running shoes (excluding some trail shoes I bought a couple years back with no intent of trail running in them), some basic Reebok shoes.  They only had a couple styles of running shoes in my size when we went to buy some.  Rather than wait and order online (no guarantee of significantly better selection, and I knew that if I didn't start doing some running ASAP, my motivation would likely falter), I went with those.  They're doing fine.  When they wear out, I'll probably put in a bit more time and research (and, possibly, cash) into upgrading to a nicer shoe.
