I've been doing four sets of 16 for a while now (64 sit-ups as well) -- with stretching in between. With running to get my heart pumping, it's about a two-hour workout. Do this twice a week alternating with two more days of weight training. Lost 45 pounds since August 1, 2016 and feeling great at 62!

Someone recommended knuckle push-ups to me a few years ago, saying that by doing them, regular push-ups would get easier. Do them on a mat. They help, as do the lateral push-ups a trainer showed me years ago. Do a push-up and move to the side, crossing one arm under the other, then move back and repeat. I started with 8 and have done as many as 45. The trainer said that this was a better aerobic exercise for older men (I was 48 at the time). I also recommend a rest day.

Thanks for the support/ advice. It can be two days after a workout that I feel the effects. Usually soreness.

Dave - listen to your body. If you feel like doing it daily is wearing on your joints, or not giving your muscles enough time to repair, then give yourself rest days. There's no point in injuring yourself, thus setting yourself back farther.

I am rethinking my goal and instead, give my muscles a day in between to rest. Three days of 50, one day off, two days of 50, then another day off. Any thoughts would be welcome.

A book called "7 Weeks to 100 push-ups" got me to and past that number, although I've come to prefer doing fewer while concentrating on form. I'm 54, and did 75 with good form at the start of my workout Tuesday night. I might get back up to 100 yet.

Dave - Sounds like a plan!

Giancarlo, "greasing the groove" as you say. Two sets of 25 in one day. Starting date, January 1st. Take your pic, for before and after results!!!

@Dave I was thinking the same thing yesterday... if you are going to do it, I'll join you. I want to get back to doing 50 in one shot. Is there a program you're following, or just "greasing the groove" by doing them throughout the day until you hit 50?

@Thomas - kudos, man... burpees suck.

Thomas, burpees in the AM? Wow! congrats! Now that would be a challenge for me....good for you. Keep it up!!
