You should check out Brookline News and Gift (near Coolidge Corner). The shop is filled with all kinds of crazy stuff, but the owner is a avid pipe smoker and usually has quite a selection of pipes/tobacco. Also, if you don't mind taking the subway, hit LJ Peretti's in Boston (on the Green Line between the Boylston St and Arlington St. stops). They have been in business for ~140 years and have an excellent selection of pipes/tobaccos. They blend a bunch of their own pipe tobacco in the back room there - I used to spend every Saturday there while I was in grad school in the late 90's/early 00's

I'm not familiar with that maker. If you are concerned about resale value, Dunhill, Peterson, Davidoff, and Stanwell are the big names to look for - but they'll be harder to find good examples in your price range.
If you are just after good high quality pipes, Savinelli and Comoy make a wide range of great pipes that won't get ridiculous (new or estate).

What exactly is a "Christmas pipe"? I've seen a few advertised as such, but aside from having a "Merry X-mus" engraving on the shaft, they looked like any other.

Matthew - Peterson pipes are, generally speaking, pretty great (I've got my eye on a few) And the Christmas editions are always beautiful pipes. Enjoy it!

Anyone here have experience with the Peterson Christmas Pipes? I'm the proud new owner of a 2011 Bent (I like this years, and will buy one later, but I couldn't pass of the festive green and red).
Purchased it online, and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Plan on seasoning it with Boswell's Christmas Cookie, which is my favorite aromatic blend.

Greetings Gents,Been interested in finding a way to enjoy quiet Sunday evenings with a few of my friends as they sit around puffing on cigars and as we sip drinks. I've decided on a pipe I think. Looked around on the internet and found a pipe that I like the looks of and something that won't break the bank. It is listed as a "Sir Sheldon, 5 3/4" made from Genuine Briar." I'm interested in getting some feedback about getting started smoking a pipe as well.
