Also I wanna be able to hear a song and play it and just jam along with other musicians.

Well I wanna play the blues, jazz, funk. Got the 12bar blues down I guess. Know how to play a couple songs and licks, and pentatonics, but don't know how to move on.

Cool group - I've played bass in Brooklyn, New York for 25 years - whoa, that sounds like I'm old.  I was recorded on Joe Whyte's "Heavyweight" album back in 1999 or thereabout.

Tim -

Yes. A good teacher will definitely get you moving. But judging by your comment, I'm wondering what your goals are? What do you want to do with the guitar? A teacher will help you do that..., once you figure it out.

But practice--deliberate daily practice--is part of the equation.

Is there any possibility of some of the guitar players helping me out, by teaching me a little bit more? I've been taught for about a year a little bit by a friend, but lost a lot of knowledge, because I haven't been practicing in MONTHS!

And I don't know where and how to start again. If I ever pick up my guitar I just try to "lick around" a bit.

Hey everyone, new here. A little about myself: I play bass, and my favorite styles are rock n' roll with a special love of "classic" rock and 80's metal. Many of you it seems paly multiple instruments, but I perfer to focus on the bass and try to master that. Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) is my favorite bassist.

To any other bassists out there, I started a group recently, manly bass players, so check that out if you want. Its not much-yet! SO I hope other bassists can help to make it better.
