So the Utah Muzzeloader Hunt has come and gone.  Did anybody out there have any success?? Pics??  I had a deer tag, no luck.  However the real focus was my sisters big bull tag.  We focused on that hunt with hopes of coming across a worthy buck to harvest (the hunts coincide).  I am happy to say that she was successful. It was so fun to be with her and play a role in her big hunt.  Here are a couple pics.

I don't have a lease, either, this year and will miss hunting.  I am hoping to go to a friend's near Kerrville later in the season.  They have some great exotics.

I have a question I want to throw out to all of you.  Muzzleloaders!  I am looking to upgrade my muzzleloader from a traditional to an in-line.  I have narrowed it down to the following:

Knight

Mountaineer

Disc Extreme

Bighorn

CVA

Optima

Thompson Center

Omega

What are your opinions of these guns?  I am in Utah and hunt Mule Deer and Elk.

Good luck on your future endeavors in the great outdoors Jesse. It's always good to bring other people, as well a yourself into this great human past time. Though I've yet to hunt elk, I would recommend starting with smaller game such as squirrels, rabbits, and the whitetail. I hear tell elk hunting is very labor intensive, and you'd need to carry out all that meat. The perfect weapon debate will never be settled, so I say it's good to have the right caliber to make a clean and ethical kill, but this comes mostly from being comfortable with your weapon and knowing your limitations. Practice, patience, and persistence will fill your freezer with the best food in the world. Just remember to be safe, smart, and respect all of nature, especially the animals you pursue. The kill is only second hand to the whole experience

I just want to introduce myself.  My Name is Jesse Harper I am originally from Oregon, however I currently reside in England.  I have for as long as I can remember enjoyed the thought of hunt "being out in nature etc."  While growing up in Oregon I never fully appreciated the outdoors as much as  I would have liked.  I have pledged to myself that I will change this when I move back to Oregon next year.  I have looked at dates for the hunters safety course in oregon, I know that a winchester 270 will do me fine hunting for deer.  My son is 6 and he is always in front of the tv or ps3. I want to show him that there is more to life than that.  Why do it in a video game when you can do it for real.  I have researched extensively on different cleaning techniques, what calibre rifle to have (although what is a good calibre for elk?) When the seasons are and license fees.  thank you for taking the time to read this.

First year since I've been hunting that we haven't gone opening weekend in Texas.  Not getting out until the third week.  Hopefully there will still be some stupid bucks around.
