Humm..sorry about that.

KC= Kansas City

MO= Missouri

I know bush craft but don't really don't know a whole lot about river travel. I have a few charts but the sand can change at any time making anything other then a flat bottom boat hard to navigate. Good thing is that they dredge the Missouri river often so with the most current charts it's possible, bad thing is that the river is very,very low right now due to not enough rain. Unless your talking about using a canoe or kayak then that's a different story altogether, but would be a hell of a trip!

Mark I have no idea what your abbreviations are but on the subject of bushcraft and river boat trips I know of a couple ( husband and wife ) who built a raft from 24 gallon drums old timber pellets an old tin shed steering consisted of a road pulley system that had a big polly pipe steering wheel and the sails were discarded car dust covers . To my knowledge they sailed up and down the Murray river for over two years .

I to would like to do the MO. river to the gulf. I was thinking of doing a short trip this summer from KC. MO. to Columbia, MO.(were I live) just to see how it went. I had a buddy that built his own house boat and did the whole trip you talking about in 3 months. I'm big into bush-craft but a bit out of practice, hehe.

Hi all,

I am an experienced camper, mainly backpacking and hoping to find some kindred souls here. I am currently trying to decide on a bucket list epic trip the AT or a trip down the Missouri to the Mississippi to the gulf. Any input?

cool Mark.  I actually meant So Cal, not social, but causal camping is lots of fun too.  easy in and easy out

Hey Jim, I am not a hard core camper so I guess that makes me a social camper.  The AT is not for me but sitting around a camp fire just enjoying life is totally for me.

I love to camp, hike, explore, etc. One of my life goals is to Hike the Appalachian Trail. Sounds like a good group for me!

Consideering that the NPS has seen black bears rip doors off cars to get to a cooler, a "hard sided camper" isn't going to do much to stop a determined bear.

How to gain more respect from people around you (lost article)

I was wondering if anyone here could help me. I once read an article on AoM (I'm pretty sure it was) about how to behave and act to gain more respect from your friends and the people around you.There's very little I can recall from the article. I think though there was some tip about when you start talking to group of people you should not turn your front directly at them at first, instead you should wait for them to turn their front at you... don't know if this helps anyone remembering the…See More
